Delicious Orchestral,
By echoes of empires (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Las 4 Estaciones (Audio CD)
Las 4 Estaciones del Amor....is gorgeous, brilliant, and totally delightful. Like a fish swimming between currents of joy and melancholy, both boisterous and thoughtful. This work is orchestral - not pop with an orchestral background - it is orchestral with a pop influence; achingly melodic, rich with harmonies and colors - played on piano, strings, woodwinds, horns, accordion, vibes, drums, bass, a bell.... with Natalia singing w/o words throughout (though not continuously). As way of references.... hmm... think of Smile (Brian Wilson) with a more 'serious' orchestral sound, divided into four suites rather than pop songs; I think of early 20th century chamber music as well, but don't let this scare you off! It's chock full of Natalia's exquisite pop sensibilities - just hard to describe! A soundtrack to an unmade short film; winsome and strong. For anyone out there who loves 'post-rock,' who loves gorgeous music, you're missing out terribly if you haven't heard this. Do yourself a tremendous favor and listen to this excellent music!
