5.0 out of 5 stars A most intriguing study, February 6, 2002
This review is from: Las Colinas: The Inside Story of America's Premier Urban Development (Paperback)
Las Colinas: The Inside Story Of America's Premier Urban Development is the true story of an incredible private community. Since over 1000 corporations reside in Las Colinas, many people mistakenly believe that it is a city. Las Colinas was in fact financed in the 1970s by millionaire Texas rancher Ben H. Carpenter. The real estate crash of 1986 left the rancher eventually evicted from his former property. The history of Las Colinas is filled with turbulence, debt, an overburdened utility district, and unusual features galore. A most intriguing study and a highly recommended addition to academic and community library 20th Century American history and urban development studies reading lists and reference collections.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing attention to detail, January 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Las Colinas: The Inside Story of America's Premier Urban Development (Paperback)
I live in Las Colinas and it is, indeed, a unique community. I enjoyed learning the 'ins and outs' of how it was created and how it operates today. I have wondered many times about the elevated tramway but I've never used it because it makes no sense to me. Mr. Bourland's attention to detail and persistence in researching this topic are amazing. I look at my community through different, educated eyes now. A very interesting and enlightening book - Thank you.
