Pleasantly fresh flavored with a fruity aroma, Las Doscientas Arbequina extra virgin olive oil is made with hand picked olives and first cold pressed within hours of harvest for maximum freshness. This Arbequina oil has an acidity of less than 0.3% and it is one of the most popular of the medium intensity olive oil varietals. Smooth and buttery with a slightly nutty flavor and light hint of pepper, Las Doscientas Arbequina olive oil is a wonderful choice for salads, vegetables, poultry or fish. Serve it alongside soft or mature cheeses to enhance their flavor or use it in sauces and other dishes including ceviche. This oil was produced by Las Doscientas, a relatively new extra virgin olive oil company in the Maule Valley of Chile. The name Las Doscientas means 'The 200' in Spanish; it represents the 200 plots of farm land that were joined together to form the estate where they currently grow their olives. The Las Doscientas estate is 250 kilometers south of Santiago in the Maule Valley of Chile. This valley is known as Chile's premiere agricultural region and the Las Doscientas estate is situated between the Andes and Coastal Mountain ranges. The diverse climate and soil in this region is perfect for growing olives and their fields are planted with a variety of olives including Arbequina, Picual, Leccino and Coratina. Founded in 2001, the company has received numerous international awards since its first harvest was bottled in 2005. This Arbequina extra virgin olive oil was awarded a trophy at the 2009 Leone d'Oro dei Mastri Oleari awards in Italy as well as an International Gold Medal and an International Bronze Medal at the 2007 Los Angeles County Fair in California.

Got this olive oil at a food & entertaining expo in Washington DC. The Arbequina was a little smoother than the Picual that Foster Fine Foods offers in addition to this.

The flavor of this olive oil is mild and buttery rich (with a hint of green tea?) but that's not to say that you can't taste it on your salad because it is not easily overpowered. I love dipping fresh baguette or rosemary bread into this oil. Rest assured you'll want your dish to feature this olive oil because it's that satisfying...
