I was finally able to visit Las Vegas last year and bought several Vegas books as souvenirs. Unfortunately, most of the books only provided information on present-day Las Vegas. Also wanted were pictures of the Las Vegas I had seen on TV as a kid. After all, that is what gave it its magic & attraction to me.

This book provides that. Pictures of the old & new are featured on opposite pages for easy comparison. The pictures are large, sharp, & clear, & are of excellent quality to this layman's eye. They are also accompanied by short paragraphs of essential facts such as build dates & owners, along with information peculiar to the specific buildings.

I highly recommend this book to the nostalgist.

The book is a fascinating look at Vegas in the past and present. For each subject there's the "then" and the "now". It captures the amazing evolution of defines Las Vegas. With each picture is a paragraph about the scene. It's a nice coffee table book but also a cool reference book.

I drove through Las Vegas in 1975 and was so unimpressed I didn't even stop and get out of the car. I wanted to see if this book had any photos from that era and was pleased to find out my memory wasn't faulty. I was also there in the mid '60s and the late '90s and the book didn't let me down on those memories, either.

I PURCHASED THIS BOOK BECAUSE MY HUSBAND & I WERE LOOKING FOR THIS VERY THING.......VEGAS THEN & NOW. EACH LEFT HAND PAGE IS A PICTURE OF SOMETHING FROM THE PAST (i.e., building, park, street, etc.) AND EACH RIGHT HAND PICTURE IS THE PRESENT AT THE SAME LOCATION. IT'S A GREAT BOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO REALLY LOVE OLD VEGAS. WE HAVE BEEN GOING THERE SINCE THE MID-SEVENTIES & REALLY MISS SOME OF THE HISTORY THAT'S BEEN TORN DOWN. HOWEVER, I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE NOT BOUGHT THIS BOOK IF I HAD REALIZED THAT IT WAS PUBLISHED ALMOST TEN YEARS AGO. I WISH THEY WOULD MAKE ANOTHER ONE THAT IS MORE UP TO DATE. BUT IT IS A REALLY NICE COFFEE TABLE BOOK.

This book is very interesting. it gives history back to the beginning of las vegas up to current. well worth the money.

I loved catching up on my Las Vegas history before visiting the city on my 2nd honeymoon. After reading My Life with Frank (Sinatra) I wanted to see what old hotels were still standing. It was satisfying to be able to compare the locations of the old 40's hotel locations with the new glamorous mega-resorts now in their place. I also thoroughly enjoyed comparing the old pictures of downtown Las Vegas and the new Fremont experience photos. This book is a must for all history buffs planning a trip to Las Vegas.

My husband and I looked through it and loved it....but we did give it to our Grandparents....who we had bought it for. We will have to borrow it though!!

this book is great for any vegas fan.
if you love vegas and have trawled the strip countless times like i have then you MUST have this book.
the before and after pictures are amazing. new casinos have been built since this book was published but you can get the general overall idea of the old and the new of vegas.
the history is very brief becuase the book is all about the pictures.
the photography is sensational

Very nice pics and great comparisons from old and new, even if the new are a few years old and a little dated - would be great to get an update with newer photos for now, but Vegas changes so fast that it would have to be updated yearly. A very cool book

This is a wonderful book to see some of the historical sites of Las Vegas. This book gives you and idea of what Vegas looked like during the early 1900's to now! Book is put together nicely and is great to place on a coffee or end table for those who haven't see then and now pictures of Vegas!
