Simplify Layout Tasks and Increase Productivity
Whether you're setting concrete forms or finishing up a framing project, you know that laying out squares and performing quality-control checks can be some of the toughest, most time-consuming components of any construction project. That's where the PLS90 comes in: this laser line tool makes it easy to identify and layout precise 90-degree angles, so you can get work underway quickly, accurately, and without depending on complicated, time-consuming, or error-prone setups.

This 90-degree layout tool makes use of lines, not hard-to-track dots, and its industry-leading brightness makes sure that these lines are easy to see across the laser's working range of over 100 feet indoors (range dependant on lighting conditions). A new up-beam now makes for additional utility for interior wall framing. For added convenience, an easy-to-operate adjustment wheel is built into the tool for quick, accurate alignment over a second layout point. The PLS90 is accurate to within 1/8-inch over 100 feet.

If you work outdoors, the PLS90 System (includes tool and detector) or PLS90 Kit (includes tool, detector, and tripod) is likely to be a better choice.

PLS Benchmark Dampening Ensures Consistent, Reliable Layout Results
Like all PLS point and line laser alignment tools, the PLS90 is fully self-leveling, and it takes full advantage of the patented PLS pendulum design and magnetic dampening to deliver real, usable results. Dampening is the settling down effect on the laser beam, and thanks to this advanced technology, all PLS point and line lasers settle down instantly when moved to a new layout point.

Additionally, this system compensates for job site vibrations caused by compressors, generators, and other heavy equipment, preventing the laser point from "jumping" around and ensuring that your laser delivers accurate, usable information. This helps your team get jobs done right the first time to save you time and money.

Durable Construction and Accessories for Career-Long Savings
All PLS tools are designed and manufactured to meet strict quality control guidelines, and the PLS90's workmanship is backed by a one-year manufacturer warranty for dependability you can rely on. Plus, if your laser tool ever does need to be serviced, PLS offers fast, 48-hour factory turnaround on repairs or replacements to help ensure that your PLS laser line tool continues to provide accurate performance and improved productivity for the full duration of your career.

This laser line tool measures 5 x 2-1/4 x 4-1/2-inches and weights just 1.7 pounds, so it practically fits in the palm of your hand. It also comes with a hard-shell carrying case to help protect it from the rough realities of construction work. For your convenience, the PLS90 is powered by three standard "AA" batteries (included), and it can run over 30 hours between battery changes.

About Pacific Laser Systems
Built by contractors for contractors, PLS tools were developed out of necessity by professional carpenters with over 50 years of experience in commercial and residential interior and exterior layout, and they're recognized as some of the finest point-to-point and reference line layout tools in the world.

Ideal for installing curtain walls, foundations, columns, skylights, doors, cabinetry, and much more, PLS tools combine portability with advanced, utilitarian designs for effective use in situations where traditional bubble vial levels or two-person plumb bob setups are too cumbersome or too limited to get the job done right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes accurate lay out a breeze, May 12, 2007
I've been using this laser on the job for about 5 months now and consider it to be an essential lay out tool. I primarily remodel older houses that are rarely square and/or plumb. This means that I usually have to shim or even re-frame walls, especially in kitchen and bathroom areas. Nothing has reduced the time I spend dealing with out of square situations and general layout tasks more than the PLS 90. In fact, I haven't made a 3-4-5 layout triangle since I got this laser.

This is a specialist laser designed for layout applications, which it handles exceedingly well. The beams are oriented to draw two vertical lines that are exactly perpendicular. Initially I was concerned that they might not spread well across a floor, especially one with debris, extension cords, and air hoses lying about. Even with the unit set directly on the floor, the beam is angled in such a way that it picks up right behind (within an inch or two) most low obstructions. The engineers who designed the fan angle of the laser did a surprisingly good job with this.

If I have a good wall that I can use as a reference, I'll start with that and use the laser to find perpendicular lines. From those I can find additional parallel lines. If the house is so messed up that I don't have a single straight wall, I use the laser to establish the best straight line and base the rest of my layout off of it. I still get out the chalk box to mark my lines once the control points are set by the laser, at least during the framing stage.

The laser is fairly bright and tight (about 1/8 of an inch wide), so it's easy to see the layout and make adjustments to it. A detector isn't needed for most interior applications, but the beams will disappear in bright conditions. There's a micro adjust knob that can be used to shift the beams to the right or left instead of having to rotate the entire unit. The laser's self-leveling system is fast and accurate (I checked it against my Topcon green beam laser).

Because kitchens and bathrooms have a lot of tile and cabinetry, it's much more critical that these areas get laid out well. The PLS 90 has saved me so much time in two ways. The initial layout is much faster because it makes establishing right angles and straight lines instantaneous and because it's so accurate, it saves time down the road because less re-work and framing adjustment are required. Work just seems to go so much smoother when everything is properly aligned and the result looks tighter too.

Because the beam has a wide spread area, I've used it to establish lines across ceilings for lining up recessed lighting or cut lines for drywall demolition. On the floor, I've used it to place nailing lines for re-nailing down old subfloors.

4.0 out of 5 stars So much easier than using a tape measure, July 2, 2009
This review is from: PLS Laser PLS-60512 PLS 90 Laser Level Tool, Yellow (Tools & Home Improvement)
Wow, this thing really works well. It is so much simpler than using a 3-4-5 measurement. It worked exactly as stated and it saved me a bunch of time framing my house. Sadly, it also showed me that the contractor who put up my exterior ICF walls was not to good at using a level or determining square.

Pros: Self leveling which is really sweet, bright lasers work extremely well for interior framing, flooring and plumbing.

Cons: Lasers could offer better vertical output angle. It does not illuminate the ceiling for several feet out from the unit. This is problematic in small rooms when you are trying to establish your top plate or drywall seams. Battery life seems short. They claim 30 hours between changes, however, even though the lasers are really bright for the first couple of hours, they dim to unusable after several hours of continuous use. I have changed batteries four times and I have only used it for a month on weekends.
