I have received this set today and can't take my eyes off it. The placemats look so much better in person. I believe the photo on this page represents a rug. The placemats are made of long bamboo slats that are about 1 cm wide. I cannot attest to the durability of the placemats, just the looks for now. A placemat resembles a miniature rug! The "non-skid" is not really non-skid. It looks like they used gauze to help keep the bamboo pieces together on the back. These placemats were made in China if anyone is interested. It doesn't bother me in any way, but some people are determined not to buy anything made there. The edges of each placemat are fabric. I am not sure how I will clean them if they get dirty. There are no care instructions included with the set. I would be cautions using chemical cleaners. I think that those cleaners can damage and remove the clear glossy stain off the bamboo. The picture pattern could be damaged as well. I would just use a wet paper towel and soap.
