This review is from: LaserJamb ProCarpenter PMS25 Pad Metric Standard Tape Measure (Tools & Home Improvement)
I needed a tape measure that would show both US and British units. When I bought this measure way back in 2003, I did not hope for much at this price. However I was extremely surprised with the quality and features. The blade is coated, very sturdy and extends very far before breaking. As I live in the US, i measure 99% of the time in inches/feet. I was still using this tape, even though one side of it was occupied with CM/Meters: the markings are very clear, there is plenty of Imperial markings on this tape, so I never had problems working with feet/inches.
The case is very solid and has rubber padding. The tape lock is good and works just right. Maybe it was just my unit, but the quality of it had been outstanding. This measure quickly became my primary measure and even though I dropped it a number of times and abused it, it outlasted my other brand name measures, even though I was using them less intence. Long story short, I lost this tape, or someone stole it from me, so I am buying the same one now.

Better than I expected,

This review is from: LaserJamb ProCarpenter PMS25 Pad Metric Standard Tape Measure (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this item (LaserJamb PMS25) because I needed a tape measure with both metric and imperial. My local hardware store did carry the popular brands in metric, but they were not labeled clearly and neatly and many did not carry both metric and imperial on a single blade.I was somewhat surprised of the high quality. The blade is think and coated with nylon. It seems to be better constructed than the more expensive brands sold locally. It came with a rubber boot which protects the casing. The side of the rubber boot has a white area which can be used to note measurements - I haven't used it, but it might be useful for some. It has a metal belt clip on the other side. Both the rubber boot and the clip can be removed easily. Mine did not come with a pencil sharpener, but coincidently, I also purchased the smaller sister model (LaserJamb PMS16) which did come with a pencil sharpener and is made with the same quality. Mine differed slightly from some of the pictures above; the pictured measure resembles the smaller model. As for the blade, it's very clearly labeled with both metric and imperial. The inches are in large print noted down to 1/16 of an inch while the metric is noted in smaller print down to the millimeter.

For ten bucks you can't go wrong with this tape measure. I bought two of these, one for me and one for a helper, since it's always a good idea to have everyone using the same tape kind of tape measure on a job.The LaserJamb PMS25 has both metric and imperial (standard) units on the tape, which I love since I grew up in a metric country but have since moved to the US. It's hard to get the old brain out of metric mode sometimes, so with this tape measure I can yell out a length in feet and inches if I'm working with someone, or stick to metric if I'm working alone. A cool feature of this tape measure is a white circular area on the side which you can write on with a pencil and wipe off easily. Great if you can't remember measurements. Just write 'em down and take the tape with you. No more writing on scraps of wood! Oh, there's also a pencil sharpener built into the tape measure - although it isn't a carpenters pencil sharpener (the rectangular shaped ones), it only accepts round pencils. Useful? Maybe. Personally I don't carry around those kinds of pencils.
