Great tape and the price is unbeatable,

I needed a tape measure that would show both US and British units. When I bought this measure way back in 2003, I did not hope for much at this price. However I was extremely surprised with the quality and features. The blade is coated, very sturdy and extends very far before breaking. As I live in the US, i measure 99% of the time in inches/feet. I was still using this tape, even though one side of it was occupied with CM/Meters: the markings are very clear, there is plenty of Imperial markings on this tape, so I never had problems working with feet/inches.
The case is very solid and has rubber padding. The tape lock is good and works just right. Maybe it was just my unit, but the quality of it had been outstanding. This measure quickly became my primary measure and even though I dropped it a number of times and abused it, it outlasted my other brand name measures, even though I was using them less intence. Long story short, I lost this tape, or someone stole it from me, so I am buying the same one now.

Better than I expected,

I purchased this item (LaserJamb PMS25) because I needed a tape measure with both metric and imperial. My local hardware store did carry the popular brands in metric, but they were not labeled clearly and neatly and many did not carry both metric and imperial on a single blade.I was somewhat surprised of the high quality. The blade is think and coated with nylon. It seems to be better constructed than the more expensive brands sold locally. It came with a rubber boot which protects the casing. The side of the rubber boot has a white area which can be used to note measurements - I haven't used it, but it might be useful for some. It has a metal belt clip on the other side. Both the rubber boot and the clip can be removed easily. Mine did not come with a pencil sharpener, but coincidently, I also purchased the smaller sister model (LaserJamb PMS16) which did come with a pencil sharpener and is made with the same quality. Mine differed slightly from some of the pictures above; the pictured measure resembles the smaller model. As for the blade, it's very clearly labeled with both metric and imperial. The inches are in large print noted down to 1/16 of an inch while the metric is noted in smaller print down to the millimeter.

For ten bucks you can't go wrong with this tape measure. I bought two of these, one for me and one for a helper, since it's always a good idea to have everyone using the same tape kind of tape measure on a job.The LaserJamb PMS25 has both metric and imperial (standard) units on the tape, which I love since I grew up in a metric country but have since moved to the US. It's hard to get the old brain out of metric mode sometimes, so with this tape measure I can yell out a length in feet and inches if I'm working with someone, or stick to metric if I'm working alone. A cool feature of this tape measure is a white circular area on the side which you can write on with a pencil and wipe off easily. Great if you can't remember measurements. Just write 'em down and take the tape with you. No more writing on scraps of wood! Oh, there's also a pencil sharpener built into the tape measure - although it isn't a carpenters pencil sharpener (the rectangular shaped ones), it only accepts round pencils. Useful? Maybe. Personally I don't carry around those kinds of pencils.

As a homeowner remodeler who's done in the past 3 years a kitchen remodel down to the studs, half bath addition, and now a master bathroom renovation, this tape measure is a dream for those detailed oriented workers.
*Easy to Read markings. I really liked the easy-to-read graduated markings for the 1/16's measurements. I found taking more detailed measurements much easier over several Stanley tape measures I've owned over the years. *Sliding Tail. (or whatever its called). Also I learned that it's got a unique sliding tail on the end of the tape. Doing a normal read, like measure a tile where you can hook the end on an edge, it slides out to get a "true length". On other readings, like measuring the width from the wall to the nearest tile where the tail isn't hooked on anything but butted-up against the wall, the tail slid-in to account for the depth of the tail itself. I used to manually adjust my measurements for this on other tape measures. *Durability. I've dropped it several times from a 6ft ladder on concrete and it hasn't shown any sort of damage. *Erasable pad. When I ordered this I thought it was a nice gimmick I'd never use. But....I found myself using it constantly once I got used to it being there. The only con I found is the belt clip is a little flimsy. I've stopped using that and instead put it in the pouch on my tool belt. It's just a tape measure but it's made a big impression on me. I bought two of them and would buy more of them. I highly recommend them to anyone!

It's an excellent tool; I've seen it impress the most jaded contractor on site and I get great use and utility out of it - until I need to clip it to my back pocket... The clip just doesn't have any spring to it. Take off on a light jog or a hussle up the stairs and this will jump right off. I'm used to the Stanley's where the clip gives an audible CLICK when you snap it off your pocket. Not so with this and it's really annoying. One of these days I'm gonna leave it behind and I might just not look back.

I had been looking for a tape measure that had metric measurements on it as I am a science teacher and my father-in-law was raving about how much easier some project was when he used his metric square. This tape measure has a nice hefty feel to it--it does not feel like a toy. There are two ways to lock the tape in place; a button underneath for a temporary hold, like laying the tape measure down and a permanent hold with the slide button. The write on feature is a boon when working by oneself and you don't want to write on the project, just be sure to use an erasable pen or pencil. The built-in pencil sharpener is handy as well; even my kids will go out to the garage when they can't find their personal pencil sharpener.

Even without considering the price, this is a great tape measure. I bought it because I like working with the metric scale, but the English side is marked in 1/8 increments, which makes life easier. The bottom lock button is a great feature as is the wipe off surface. The pencil sharpener is nice, but doesn't take 'carpentry' pencils.
All this, then considering the price this is definitely a BEST BUY in the world of tape measures.

LaserJamb PMS25 Pad Metric Standard Tape
This a gret tape measure. I live in a fairly big city and looked all over town for a measure that read millimeters, some places have the ones that read centimeters, which works, but all my drawings at work are in mm, and it's just easier to look at it and not have to convert. I also like the little note thing. Thanks for helping me out!!!

Great measuring tape at a great price. That sums it all up. I had looked at several different measures, and wanted one that had both metric and imperial. Tougher to find (for a reasonable price) that you would think. This one had it, though, and was fairly priced.
Plus, the feel if good and solid, not like a lot of cheaper ones that are sold. Good quality product. Glad I bought this one.

I just got the tape a few days ago because I needed metric scale.
I have been very pleased with the little features of the tape. Besides the write-on pad, it has a neat button on the bottom of the tape to keep the tape extended without using the lock button, and the best belt clip design I've ever seen. Very small details, but useful items that put it ahead of other tapes. I mean...what can you improve when it comes to a tape measure? |
