lasershield = "laserdud",
This review is from: LaserShield BSK-0013101 Home Security System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I read the ad and purchased the system through Costco since they have a rep for an excellent price/value relationship.
Rating the unit- Set-up = A. easy to read and follow instructions Components = D. a).Transmitters are physically large in relation to their function/operation. They are easy to spot by intuders. b). base station. Alarm signal is loud enough to be a nuisance. Perhaps it was designed to incapacitate intruders through laughter. c). Sensitivity = F I placed the 2 sensors in logical locations and "broke into" my own house with the system armed. I assumed that the intruder would come during the day. Any intruder with half a brain would see the sensors - they have a big red LED on the front. Sadly, I was able to get by the sensors and gain access to all of the house by using very slow deliberate movements. It bears mentioning that I am 6'5" 250 lbs and that I moved within 5' of the front of one of the sensors without setting off the alarm. Once I had decided to return the unit, I started moving more naturally to see what the threshold was for me to be detected. I was not impressed, to say the least. It is true that it would be hard to leave the house carrying a TV or a sofa but intruders easily could have walked off with small valuables /jewelry/cash. In fact, without installation of a third sensor they could have opened the garage door and carried 1/2 of the first floor. Unless your prospective intruders are remarkably clumsy, or ride (remarkably clumsy) elephants, there is no way this system would detect them. MAR

I've read the reviews for LaserShield and noted that many are skeptical of some of the reviewers, writing that they have been "planted" or paid by LaserShield. Some say the positive reviews are from people who don't even have one, and that the reviews are from persons who never made a review on Amazon.com before. I can assure you, I DO own one, and I have for years. You can also check my other reviews by clicking on the link ("See all my reviews") on this review and you will see that I have reviewed numerous products over the year. Now on to my review . . .
I live in Hawaii. We have jalouise windows. These are extremely common in Hawaii. They consist of horizontal slats, with each slot about four inches wide. They can be removed very easily. Traditional alarm systems would not be effective with these type windows. But, a motion activated alarm is PERFECT! Some reviewers noted that the sensors are large and easily observable, so if a person moves in front of the sensor VERY SLOWLY, it will not activate the alarm. That is true . . . I've tried it . . . but the key words are "VERY SLOWLY"! It is necessary to move at a true snail's pace to not activate the alarm. A burglar wouldn't want to measure their movements so carefully. The alarm is quite loud at 105 decibels. It provides a grace period of about ten seconds of just beeping before the real alarm starts. It should easily be heard by your neighbor unless you live on a farm in the country. That alarms would certainly scare the vast majority of burglars and "encourage" a quick exit. What happens if they pull the electrical plug? Nothing! Both the base unit and remote sensors have battery back-up. Customer service is responsive. The emergency response monitoring is not too expensive. I really like my LaserShield. It give me piece of mind.

Laser Shield Security System is not recommended.We have had this product for two years. It has created problems with our telephone line, sometimes "answering " our phone, despite numerous attempts to fix. Last fix was a new monitoring station that not only answered the phone line on the first ring but also left the phone line disconnected until the monitoring station was cut off. Customer service is bad--long waits (20-30 minutes.)
Alarm was triggered once and computer called neighbor, who didn't imput code fast enough. They came to our house to await police and explain what happened. Turns out the system never contacted the police. Customer service offered a three month service charge credit, then billed my credit card for three months. Company I bought this from no longer sells these units. You can figure out why.

WAY OUT IN WYOMING,

This review is from: LaserShield BSK-0013101 Home Security System (Tools & Home Improvement)
I AM AMAZED AFTER READING THE FIRST SEVERAL REVIEWS. I HAVE HAD THE LASER SHIELD FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN IN WYOMING. WE HAVE A PART TIME POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT MAY OR MAY NOT BE IN THE AREA AS THE COUNTY IS OVER 120 MILES LONG AND 100 MILES WIDE. THE SYSTEM IS VERY EASY TO SET UP. I HAVE PLACED THE UNIT ON (TEST) AND ACTIVATED THE ALARM. I HAVE NEVER GONE OVER A MINUTE WITH OUT GETTING A CALL FROM RAPID RESPONSE. I HAVE ONE UNIT SETTING ON TOP OF MY TV ALONG WITH THE BASE STATION. IT COVERS MY ENTIRE FRONT OF THE HOUSE. BEING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND A LOCKSMITH FOR OVER 18 YEARS I FEEL I HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE. THE SECOND UNIT SETS IN MY BEDROOM AND FACES SO THAT IT GOES DOWN THE HALL WAY IN THE OTHER END OF MY HOUSE. I HAVE NEVER TRIED TO HIDE THE UNITS. YOU WANT TO COVER AS MUCH AREA AS YOU CAN WITH THE MONITORS. THE BASIC IDEA IS TO SET THE UNIT OFF WHEN SOME ONE ENTERS THE GIVEN AREA. I HAVE INSTALLED ALARM SYSTEMS FOR YEARS AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS UNIT IS GREAT. IT SETS UP EASILY, WORKS LIKE IT SAYS AND THE MONITORING IS EXCEPTIONAL.I HAVE NEVER TIRED MOVING SLOWLY PAST THE UNITS. I TREAT A ENTRY JUST LIKE A BURGLAR WOULD HE IS GOING TO MOVE AS FAST AS HE CAN TO FIND AND TAKE AS MUCH AS HE CAN IN AS SHORT OF TIME AS POSSIBLE. THE UNITS GO OFF EVERY TIME. I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE LASER SHIELD PRODUCTS.

Let's see....I like my Lasershield home security system, but for some reason, it malfunctions once in a great while, as it spontaneously goes off when I'm just minding my own business at home. I "deactivate" my already deactivated alarm, and just 4 hours later, I get a knock on my door from the cavalry. Well........I guess it works properly in THAT aspect!!!! The cop told me that he gets a lot of alarms going off when there are drastic changes in the weather. Changes in the weather? Huh? Whatever. On the more serious side, it's a decent security system for the price. You can purchase extra monitors for every room of the house. The units are fairly small, so they don't take up too much space. Normally I don't buy anything that's endorsed by Rush Limbaugh, but this security system got my attention back in 2007, and I have no regrets.

After our apartment was robbed we wanted an alarm system in our new house. But we didn't have a land line phone. The alarm companies had monitoring that used cellular technology but it added $15/month to the $30/month monitoring fee. LaserShield charges $19.95/month for monitoring and gives you the choice of internet monitoring or cellular monitoring for an additional $10/month. The only problem we had was that the internet interface device (they call it a Sparrow) initially had trouble signaling the monitoring center. LaserShield worked until that issue was corrected. The only feature I wish it had was the ability to accept inputs from the stand-alone alarm system already in the house. LaserShield uses infrared detectors that use radio to connect with a central unit. Optionally you can install a "pet shield" on the detection unit that prevents the scan from going below approximately waist high and thus limits the possibility that a pet will trigger the alarm. So far our cat has not triggered the alarm.

I bought this security system for our daughter-in-law who lives in off base military housing with our two grandchildren. Our son is currently deployed and there had been break-ins in the neighborhood. The setup was easy and the keyfob remotes are a great idea. The unit itself looks like a radio with speakers. We bought an extra sensor unit for more coverage. The system is totally wireless and the sensor units communicate with the base even if they're not in the same room. We set up a sensor in the living room and the other in the kitchen. We set them up about waist high. This allows the motion detector to pick up a person but lets the pets wander around without setting off the alarm. Buying through Amazon was quite a bit less expensive than getting the same unit through Target or HomeDepot.

We purchased this unit for our daughter for her apartment since there is no hard wiring involved. Very easy to set up, just plug in and program the 2 keychain remotes and it's ready to go. You do not have to have a land-line for the monitoring service but for approximately $200, you can purchase the cellular adapter to get monitoring service with your cell phone. This is a great system that is totally portable and can move with you from apartment to home, to dorm room without a hassle. The motion sensor can be adjusted to accommodate pets also. Plus you receive several stickers that you can place on your doors & windows to let people know you are protected with an alarm system. They don't know if it is monitored or not! Definitely recommend for apartment dwellers or homeowners who don't want to pay for all the hardwiring.
