From Library Journal
This book's subtitle suggests why these 300 films (of the approximately 6000 available) are included. Rovin, a consultant for Blockbuster Video, here applies the best/worst criteria to disc quality as well as to the film itself. Arranged alphabetically, each film receives a rating and a synopsis. For each, cast, director, running time, and history (or other tidbits of information) are listed. A guide to the technology includes a rating of audio and video quality, the laserdisc format (CLV or CAVS), the source, and whether or not there are chapters (i.e., scenes numbered for easy access). Technical descriptions discuss color, grain, "pan-and-scan," and letterboxing. The text is well written, although some entries are confusing; for instance, a bad review of the film is sometimes followed by a rave review of the quality of the disc. This feature actually makes the guide more useful for true laserphiles, since it allows them to collect by either film or disc quality. A glossary of laserdisc terminology is included.
