Very disappointed in the movie after finishing the book.

Again, a movie packed with great actors that had so much going for it, but that was cheesed out at the end by a bad special effect.
Joseph Weir
Despite how cheesy looking it has gotten over the years I still love this movie.

Stephen King's books do not always successfully translate to the screen, but in this case, the results are pretty good. Be aware that this was originally aired as a television mini-series, and it is more than 3 hours long. That being said, the pacing is lively enough so that you probably won't notice. Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown really helps elevate this production, and it was a bit of casting genius.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt that some key things in the book didn't make it onto the screen. I recognize the skill of the writers and producers in being able to get most of the key elements into the production, but in the final 20 minutes, I felt that things were being "hurried along" to get the end of the story. Without giving anything away, I can say that in the book, you get a much better sense of "It" and where it came from.

In the book, for example, Stephen King actually manages to make you feel for the creature... a little... before the end comes. In the video version, the creature is simply a monster to be dispatched.

And for those who have read the book, the notorious "loss of innocence/bonding" scene is notably absent from the video, for obvious reasons. However, this does not affect the flow of the story.

If you have not read the book, you will probably be able to fully enjoy this feature on its own merits. If for no other reason, see this to witness Tim Curry in a fantastic role.

What makes this movie so entertaining is not that it's scary(The Shinning was way scarier) but that the characters are so well done and so likable. The story progresses along in an expert way that makes this movie so easy to watch. You want these characters to succeed in getting rid of "It" so they can live happy lives again. It's rare to come across a movie that spans almost the whole life of even one character but the viewer gets to watch the lives of several distinct characters from childhood to adulthood in this movie. The length of the movie won't really bother you because you will be to busy watching. The actual clown Pennywise ceased to be scary and just became a real annoyance to me by the end but when you see what "It" truly is I think you will forget that as it's a bit of a surprise. The whole movie I thought "it" was some kind of ghost or Bogart but it turned out to be something entirely different. Fans of Steven King or creature movies will enjoy this one.

This is one of the best movies of my young adult days. Stephen King outdid himself with It. I really enjoyed it.

I have always liked this movie. Great actors and actresses. It might be an older movie, but it is a must watch.

IT is my favorite Stephen King book and one of my favorite made for TV movie. Tim Curry as Pennywise was terrifying. The movie doesnt follow the book to the letter. The book was over 1000 pages and although the movie ran in two parts it was condensed. Also parts of the book would not have made it past the censors at ABC. The cast today does seem a bit dated, but at the time the adult actors were more well known at the time it was made. It is still a very good movie

I watched this a long time ago, and since then have seen bits and pieces of it when I happened to come upon it on TV, but haven't seen it in its entirety since I don't know when. This was pretty good, the clown still creepy enough for me to stop watching before bedtime so I wouldn't have nightmares about clowns, and the actors do well with a sort of cheesy script. The ending is lame, but it's well worth the price.
