Grade 5-8 A presentation of modern technology to young readers. The language in these four British books is straightforward and nontechnical. Topics are well researched. Information is diverse, recent and accurate. Material is well-organized, with attention given to historical, current and future developments in each field. Coverage includes medical, industrial, military and home applications. Technological contributions of European countries, the Soviet Union and other nations are mentioned. There are several other good books available on the subjects of lasers, robots and space; the numerous full-color illustrations are the strength of this series, particularly in Our Future in Space, in which high-quality drawings and photographs have been supplied by a number of sources such as NASA. Pictures are well-balanced and integrated into the text. A shortcoming however, is in the shortage of diagrams. Watts' "The Electronics Revolution" series is far better in that respect. Sue A.
