Editorial Reviews

Review
"An extraordinary tutorial text particularly for use by graduate students as well as an invaluable reference for the seasoned professional." -- IEEE Spectrum

"LASERS is a remarkably well written book that should become the standard introductory text on laser physics." -- Optical and Quantum Electronic News

"The classic pedagogical treatment of the subject." -- Physics Today

Product Description
Lasers is both a textbook and a general reference book with an emphasis on basic laser principles and theory. A unique feature is that it gives a complete, detailed, and accurate treatment of laser physics, building only on classical models, without requiring the reader to have a quantum mechanical background. It is for all scientists and engineers who work with lasers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Lasers Book, March 19, 2002
By S. Bank (Austin, TX) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is universally regarded as the ultimate reference for lasers. After discovering it in grad school, I understand why! Siegman's explanations are truly phenomenal and "Lasers" treats virtually every topic on lasers. Plus, he has comprehensive errata on his website!

5.0 out of 5 stars A lucid, pedagogical and rigorous survey of the entire field, September 16, 1998
By A Customer
I used LASERS for both of Siegman's courses at Stanford, and even now it has become well worn with use in our lasers laboratory. Both the fundamental physics and contemporary technology are rigorously covered in their essential entirety, in a well written and lucid survey of the field. Indeed, care had obviously been taken to develop the entire text into a coherent treatise starting from first principles, and the pedagogical treatment of the subject still makes the book nothing short of a joy to read. Five stars as a textbook; five as a working reference.
