I hope this fan lasts at least 5 years or more. It was a little more expensive than the one it replaced, but it looks sturdier, too. Very happy!
Compared to other fans, it's ridiculously easy to assemble.
This fan is on just about constantly at our house during summer. We move it from the bedroom to the living room every day. It does not overheat or skip a beat. It's light and easy to carry yet very stable thanks to the wide base. In terms of noise, we set it on high and sleep right through it although our bedroom is 11'x15' (small!). It does not jitter, ring, shake, clink, clunk or make any other weird/annoying kind of rhythmic noise even when it's set to oscillate. As an added bonus, we found that it effectively muffles the nightly barking of the lonely dog down the street. For its size, it provides a very powerful air flow without the "I'm stuck in an airplane engine" type of noise emitted by other fans we have had over the years. This is our second Lasko fan. The other (same size) was sadly "lost" during a theater production...yes we used it to dry paint on the set and it mysteriously disappeared overnight; it was 3 years old and still working like a champ. So, to recap, if you (like us) need excellent functionality, reliability and air flow, stop searching: this is it. The extra 5-10 dollars are well worth it in the long run.
It was fairly easy to assemble. No tools required. The plastic grill was a little time consuming to snap together, because the plastic is not rigid enough to keep it from coming unsnapped as you go around the outside to snap it together.
There was very little information in the product description, so I depended on reading the reviews to make my final decision to purchase this fan. Some people said there was a "breeze function", which mine does not have. It has a remote, 3 speeds, a timer, and a manual oscillation control. The reason I bought this fan is that it seemed to be a good replacement for my Borg fan (same size), which quit on me recently. The Borg had 2 "natural breeze" settings and that was very nice for night time while sleeping so a person doesn't eventually freeze to death.
So, I am comparing this fan to my Borg. The fan is quite noisy, even on low setting if you are used to a quiet fan. It's not a mechanical sound, just buffeting from the fan blades and air movement. I bought the fan for my bedroom. I often leave the TV on at night (low volume), because I have trouble going to sleep and that's why I like a cool breeze. It helps me sleep better.
One thing, the fan is very powerful. The low setting is too strong to have pointed directly at yourself. So, if you like hurricane strength fans, this is a good one. I have air conditioning, so I am not expecting that from a fan. On the higher settings the torque actually tilts the head slightly.
If it wasn't so difficult to take everything apart and re-box it, I would send it back. Actually, after re-reading my review, I will think about it tomorrow and maybe send it back anyway.
