I bought this fan last week to tie me over before I replace my broken air conditioner.. turns out I would quickly become a big fan of this fan and forgo the a/c replacement job. We are in the middle of an NYC heatwave right now and sleeping with this fan feels like tropical luxury - serious! It's lightweight, quiet, cool, easy to tote, tilts up or down and saves me money!

The best fan in its class !!!,
By Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) The price is right for what you get: my own fan is just about two years old now and it still works strong and hard to create good air flow. The Wind Machine also cools the room down on days when you can't use an air conditioner or when you simply don't want to use one. I recommend that the fan stand on a flat surface about three or four feet high so that the air current it creates reaches you whether you're lying down or walking around the room. It is economical in that it won't make your electric bill spike upward, too. Overall, this is a great fan and I highly recommend it as just about the best fan out there in this size and price range. It will not disappoint you!

The Best Fan on the Market.,
This review is from: Lasko 3300 20 Wind 3 Speed Fan (Electronics)
Before I finally installed air conditioning, I used this fan. In fact, I had two of them and used them for several years. This is the most powerful fan I've ever had. It doesn't rattle or clang like metal window fans. It really stirs up the air and cools the room. The three settings - low, medium and high - are achieved by turning a huge and easy to turn knob. You can tilt the fan up or down and than lock it into position using the knobs on the side. By placing one fan upward and another downward you'll get a wonderful and refreshing cross breeze. If you can't afford air conditioning or you live in an area that only needs a fan, you will love the WindMachine. I still use mine to dry clothes that I don't want to place in the drier. I hang them over the shower rod and turn the fans setting to high. The clothes are dry within a couple of hours.

I wanted a fan that was powerful enough for my 2 car garage on hot days. I bought the 3300 Wind Machine based on the reviews here.I've owned a lot of fans for various locations so I know what high velocity is compared to just a regular fan. When I bought this at Walmart for $25 a few of weeks ago I thought it was a bargain but when I put it in my garage and expected a nice powerful wind, it wasn't there. It was ok but nothing that special or what I expected. Since I only paid $25 for it, I got a $25 fan but it's not worth more than that. I was in Home Depot the other day and I saw some of their fans on display. Since their was an extension cord available I decided to test a couple. When I tested their "Workforce" 20 inch, 3 speed floor fan (Model SFC-500B )I couldn't believe this 20" metal (and well made) fan was pushing at about twice the amount of air as the Wind Machine at the price of $39.96. I did not purchase it at the time but I will before this weekend. If you're in Home Depot, try the 20" Workforce floor fan out and you be the judge.

Living in HOT, hot, Florida, I've had many types of fans to help cool us off. The Lasko Wind Machine 3300 is by far the best, most efficient fan I've ever owned.Wind Machine Fan, 20" It has the ability to tilt up, or down, which helps get rid of the hot air that collects near the ceiling, when the sun starts to go down, thus cooling the house down faster, and making it more comfy to sleep all night. The high speed is the best for that job. This fan comes already assembled, so, just plug it in. It also has nice sized "feet", which stabilizes it on every surface. It's plastic, so, it's lightweight, and easy to move around. I'm an older lady, not much upper body strength, so, this is an added benefit, it's being light enough to carry. I've attached an extension cord to it, so I don't have to bother much with disconnecting it, if I want it blowing in another room. All in all, with the tilting, different positions, it's power, and light weight, this is a grand fan! I got mine at Walmart, for about 25 dollars, and liked it so much, now I have 2! Oh, they also sit well in windows, if your sill is wide enough.

Living in the desert, one can not live merely by AC alone [unless you are incredibly wealthy and can afford NV Energy rates]. So using a fan in every room helps immensely! We purchased three of these fans a year ago, and they do run 24/7. After about three months, the motor seems to wear and the RPMs are not as fast as originally when new. The highest speed ends up after time, being what would be equal to the lowest speed when new. Then one day, after about six months, you will walk in a room and the fan has simply stopped running. We have replaced all three fans this year however, two already are starting to slow down and probably won't last the season. While these fans may be good for medium duration use [6-10 hours a day], they are not good for 24/7 use. And we have found this to be the same with the Lasko box fans. When these die in the next couple of months, we won't be replacing them with a Lasko.

I had one of these fans that ran great for about 6 years....being used every day. I like noise when I sleep at night and that was the primary function of this fan.....although it was so quiet that I needed to use it on medium or high to get the noise I wanted. Good fan though and I will likely replace my dead one with another one just like it. I'm surprised they still make this one and sell it.

I use a fan to sleep with. My current fan, a Lasko box 20" fan, has developed a whine that comes from the motor after several years of nightly use. The whine comes and goes (more so now than before) and keeps me awake or wakes me up. It's a very penetrating whine.I have bought - and returned - six fans so far from local stores in my search for a decent replacement. Everything from a replacement 20" Lasko all the way up to construction-grade floor fans. Every one had some major flaw which, although they all moved air, would probably have shattered glass with their whines. While getting less and less sleep (I live on a busy street, across from a convenience store, near a very loud dog, do not have double-paned windows, take two sleeping aids and still can't sleep) due to the intolerable whines the fans I get all seem to have, I decided to do some research into the best fans for sleeping. I found this 3300 Wind Machine Floor Fan on several sites which said it has a good sound for sleepers, and moves air well. Although it's NOT my first choice (the first one was unavailable), I decided to give it a try since it was rated number two by sleepers who use one. The reason it wasn't my first choice is that it's a Lasko, and two of the Lasko fans I bought to replace the one I had were painfully messed up for sleeping. I was leery about the brand by now. It arrived very quickly (for which I was grateful), and set-up was all of pulling it out of a box, plugging it in and turning it on. On the bright side, it doesn't seem to have a whine (after listening to it for all of five minutes). But what it has is a distinct rattle or crackle - like somethings loose or rubbing in the motor - that makes it useless for the job I need it to do. Many said it was loud, but it isn't. It's no louder than the Lasko I used to have (A standard $15.00 box fan) and might be a bit quieter because the fan runs at a somewhat lower pitch. It does move air, but I'm not sure it's any more than the standard box fan. The fan itself is entirely plastic, with the only metal being the motor and the screws that hold it together. It doesn't seem terribly sturdy, but it doesn't seem to be falling apart, either. The reason I gave it a poor construction rating is the flimsy feel to it and the fact the motor (like all motors these days, it seems) has issues. As a fan for NOT sleeping, I'm sure it's fine. But as a fan for sleeping, stay away from Lasko products. This is the third different Lasko model I've gotten (out of seven fans I've tried in the last few months) and all of them were flawed - if a consistent low fan-like hum is what you need to drown out the sounds of the world outside. To be fair, I literally got the thing half an hour ago. I took it apart to make sure the blade wasn't rattling against the motor housing like another Lasko fan I got (in this case, it wasn't), but the motor, when manually turned, doesn't turn quietly at all, so the sound comes from there. It's possible, I suppose, that running it for some time may work that rattle sound out, but my experience with fans is that if you have a sound coming from the motor, it only gets worse with time. Considering the price and the cost of shipping, I won't be returning it. I will follow up on this review if it turns out that the fan is actually better than the first impression gave me. In the meantime, does anyone know of a fan you can buy today whose manufacturer isn't cutting corners (as they seem to be doing these days) and selling fans with substandard, noisy motors?

Unimpressed,

I was looking for a fan with a stronger air flow than my basic 20" Lasko box fan. I looked around and saw the Lasko 3300 and thought it looked like it would fit the bill. When I got home I plugged it in and did a side by side comparison with my old box fan. I was surprised to find that there was no difference between the two. It's back in the box to be returned. I ended up purchasing a Honeywell Turbo Force medium size fan and it is a much better fit for me. It provides a much better air flow and takes up far less space. If I could afford it I would have purchased a Vornado as I have a friend that has a couple of different styles and they are awesome, but the Honeywell is a good second choice.
