And as a fan, it moves a lot of air!
Matt
I appreciate the prompt order and receiving of this fan which was sent as a gift to my friend.
S. Manai
At higher speeds it is a bit noisy, but I like the white noise for sleeping.
Pam

Review for: Lasko 3723 20" Box Fan

How on earth do you choose a box fan? Well really they mostly choose us don't they, we choose the first box we see. The product descriptions aren't much help, they mostly all say they are quiet, powerful, low cost to operate, etc. Are they really all that different from each other?

When looking for a replacement fan I found 2 of our fans were recalled in 2005 for fire hazard, so now I am replacing 3 fans. I guess in-plug mini-fuses became universal for a reason. Let's get started...

The 20" box fans we'll compare are:
A - Aerospeed BX100
B - Holmes HBF2002A
C - Kenmore 32002
D - Lasko 3720
E - Lasko 3721
F - Lasko 3723
G - Lasko 3733
H - Lasko B20201

DESIGN AND DETAILS:
---------------------

All have white fans and grills, gray enclosures, 245-260 square inch areas the blades pass through, and 70"-73" cords.

A - Aerospeed BX100
- Wavy grill (BX200/BX400 have other grills).
- Fan speed dial is on TOP.
- Little smaller enclosure (you wouldn't notice unless side-by-side), though the blades pass through an area near to the highest square inches of the bunch.
- The in-plug mini-fuse is easily replaceable if it blows.

B - Holmes HBF2002A (Target)
- Simple grid grill, blades have circle connecting them.
- Fan speed dial and plug connection are on the MIDDLE OF THE BACK. This is not ideal if bringing air into the house from a window and not an attractive option when exhausting out.
- The in-plug mini-fuse is easily replaceable if it blows.
- Looks exactly like the Kenmore 32002.
- NEGATIVE: At top speed it vibrates like crazy, enough to move itself.

We have had two of these running in our 2400 square foot house pretty much nonstop during the spring with 20 X 20 inch air filters duct taped to the back. The fan pulls the air through, trapping the pollen and greatly reducing our symptoms. Since 20 X 20 filters are cheap we can replace them as needed.
Cheapest and simplest air cleaners we have ever used. Planning on keeping the filters on when we run them in the summer to pull cool air into the house to minimize the dust and pollen pulled in from outside.

This is an in-depth video review of Lasko's most recent entry into the premium three-speed box fan market. We will cover all of the bases here, including: manufacturing quality, speed settings, and relative sound levels compared with other box fans.

Summary: We love this fan!

UPDATE 7/14/2010: The Lasko in the video has unfortunately perished as a result of the actions of dastardly neighborhood pests. I can't go into detail because of pending litigation, but nevertheless the fan was still going strong after nearly *three years* in service! The upside? This model is still produced! Thank the heavens! So we've bought another. The new model is as well-built as the last. Nothing blows like a Lasko!

This is probably THE cheapest box fan money can buy. It's also the narrowest fan I've ever seen. This thing probably isn't five inches wide and maybe less than that. Yet it does blow a nice breeze. It's fairly well made and the controls are easy to read (something we baby-boomers appreciate) and the dial-type switch doesn't have a mushy feel, but has distinctive notches so it switches from speed to speed with ease.

It's not too strong and you'll *never* hear anyone yell, "turn that fan down, it's blowing me away!" It's as noisy as you'd expect a $20 fan to be. I like a little white noise when I go to sleep, so this is fine for me. There are some that may find the loud whirring of the motor annoying.

For $20, I'd say it's a real dandy and does a fine job of keeping the air moving. It's a sweet deal and while I've only had mine for two months, I'm fairly well pleased with its performance to date.

buy this fan. don't wait get it before it's discontiued. this is the lasko gallaxy 3723 premium box fan the most powerfull box fan on the market.it runs at 3623 cfm on high speed at 150 watts.if you want air volume then this is it.most box fans run around 2100 to 2250 cfm on high speed.so this one blows them away.i purchased several to put away for future use.seems like every time they make a good product it gets discontiued.all your newer fans have a fuse in the plug so if your fan dies on you check the plug.easy fix cut it off and replace it with a new plug.also keep your fan clean and you will get alot of use from it.also oil the bearings they claim you don't need to but i still do.lay your box fan down and just put a couple of drops of oil on it. leave it sit for about 10 min and the oil will seep in to the bearing.remember never run a fan in a closed up room.it will overheat the motor.fans need to draw air to keep the motors cool.if you have it in a large living room dinning room area its probably ok. but in small to medium size rooms crack open the door or window. i have seen alot of people returning fans that have died after acouple of weeks from using them in there closed up bedrooms.overheated the motor. fan went kaput (lol)this is the best fan you can find in todays market.just remember box fans are noisy by nature they move alot of air. so if you are looking for a quiet fan stay away from box fans.i sleep better with the noise of a box fan.
