5.0 out of 5 stars Fan of this fan
This is the fifth Lasko tower fan I've purchased. I got one for my brother, my son and my grandma. It is quiet, which is awesome for my OCD brother who hates loud sounds. It has amazing cooling power, which helps my son who doesn't have AC in his room. And my grandma who can't walk loves that she can control it with the remote. The tower design allows you to put it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Effective but Noisy
Pros: 1) It's very easy to assemble the stand. But, if you have 2 packages of screws in the box, ignore the pointed screws as they do not fit properly. Use only the flat bottom screws for assembly. 2) The fan is fairly powerful. You can easily feel the fan breeze on low speed 10 feet away. 3) It is fairly quiet, especially on low speed, when used in a stationary...

It has amazing cooling power, which helps my son who doesn't have AC in his room. And my grandma who can't walk loves that she can control it with the remote. The tower design allows you to put it anywhere and it looks nicer and has much more power than a stand fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasko Wind Tower 2517 Fan, August 10, 2008
This review is from: Lasko 40-Inch Wind Tower Oscillating Tower Fan with Remote (Kitchen)
We just bought this today and it is great. We had a Holmes Pedestal Fan that just gave out after about 10 years. It is down in our basement and seems to cool down the room nice. It is on low speed right now and feels great. We aren't way across the room but even on the high it seems to put out a good breeze, not an industrial speed but great for a regular room. We bought it at Walmart for $39.99 + tax so I wouldn't buy for more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Effective but Noisy, April 6, 2010

Pros: 1) It's very easy to assemble the stand. But, if you have 2 packages of screws in the box, ignore the pointed screws as they do not fit properly. Use only the flat bottom screws for assembly. 2) The fan is fairly powerful. You can easily feel the fan breeze on low speed 10 feet away. 3) It is fairly quiet, especially on low speed, when used in a stationary position.

Cons: 1) It is noisy when oscillating. It gives off a distinct chugging (?) sound as it moves from side to side. The sound is very noticeable in a quiet environment and annoying. 2) All of the fan's functions do not automatically resume after the fan is turned off. If the fan was previously oscillating and is shut off then when you turn it on again you must also re-engage the oscillating feature unlike other brands where everything resumes all at once. 3) It oscillates very slowly at a fixed speed. 4) You must lift the entire fan to reposition the oscillation whereas with some other brands, you just have to twist the tower while the fan remains on the floor to do this. Having to lift the entire fan with its stand is clumsy and inconvenient.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than more expensive fans, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Lasko 40-Inch Wind Tower Oscillating Tower Fan with Remote (Kitchen)
This is a great fan, very quiet but very powerful. I use it usually on the medium setting because on the high setting it will blow your socks off. The rotating action keeps my wife and me cooled. The remote of course is convenient.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Fan! Except for......, May 19, 2010

These are seriously very good fans. They're cheap, decent looking, have a remote, timer, and put out a LOT of air (even on the lowest speed, I aim it at the wall instead of the bed at night). But...

It depends if you get a good one as to whether they're quiet or not. I bought a nearly identical model (but 3" shorter) from Walmart in a different color (dk grey), which was quiet as could be. I ordered and returned 2 of the Platinum model from Amazon, both of which had a very noticeable "chuffing" sound when the motor operates. Not feeling like returning it for a third time, I disassembled the fan (Warning-needs a special anti-sabotage slotted screwdriver for one of the screws), and determined that the noise was coming from the upper bearing that the fan rotor axle rides in. It's a basic brass bushing, with the steel axle of the fan rotor riding inside on a light coat of grease. And it's very touchy as to making noise, little tweaks this way and that on the bearing bracket can help a lot in reducing the noise produced. In the end, I ended up swapping the quieter bearing from the Walmart fan into the Platinum model from Amazon, added a touch more grease, and finally got it to be nice and quiet. Who knows for how long, but for now it's great.

Good fan, but it looks like the platinum models may be hit or miss as to noise.

I bought one of these five years ago at Walmart, I couldn't find them now there, so looked on Amazon...relatively the same amount and free shipping. Mine lasted five years before the fan just died, not bad for $50 really when you consider that I ran it all night long Every Night FOR Five Years. I can't sleep without a fan so it's a must in my bedroom, I highly recommend this fan. It's quiet, the Remote is awesome, it has several settings, occilating, non-occilating and a timer as well as different fan options. I didn't even bother to look at anything else because this fan puts out some AIR with three speeds, usually the medium setting is sufficient for Summer and Low for Winter...I never even used High until it was dying...it was a slow death...LOL..it took a week to finally Stop altogether! Even my Husband misses it!! Can't wait till the new one gets here....it's two a.m., in October and I really need that fan. : )

I own 2 of these fans. The first one i purchased over a year ago. It can keep a room very cool and does not make much noise in the process. It has been knocked over countless times (my busy 2 yr old son) and still works fine. So i purchased another one for my girls bedroom and my son knocked it over once and it broke!!!! It is the same exact fan sooo im very confused what the difference is. Next time I think I will buy a different brand but i am sticking with tower style fans. The first fan I would rate 5 stars...it is still and excellent fan!!! The 2nd one I purchased I would rate a 2!

This product does what it's advertised to do. Act as a fan to blow wind. It does cool my room down and is great on the rotation. This is NOT an A/C unit people, so don't expect it to get your room colder at all. It will just circulate the air for you and blow air, which is what I wanted. I haven't had any problems with the remote. The device does have a timer on it if you want to set it to go off in 1 hour or 7 hours, and everything inbetween. The fan is quiet on level 1 and 2. You can hear the fans on supercharge when it's on its highest level, level 3..... which is expected. I would recommend this product if you're looking for a tower fan to provide some breeze in a room!

5.0 out of 5 stars don't know what i'd do without it!, June 2, 2010

i have had the lasko tower fan w/ remote for about a year now, and i use it constantly. the fan is so quiet compared to others, and i love the remote option. i have the fan on one end of my master bedroom, and i keep the remote on the nightstand so i can turn it on and set the direction without getting out of bed. I LOVE the timer feature, as we can fall asleep with the fan blowing, but it will turn off after some time (you can set it to run between 1 hour and 7 hours) so I don't waste electricity throughout the night. I was so thrilled with this fan that i recently purchased one as a gift for my grandmother. The second fan is also quiet and works perfectly, and it seems that anyone complaining about the noise may have a defective model.
i'm waiting on my other pedestal fan to give out so we can purchase another one of these- the color fits nicely with most modern decor, though i wish they offered an all-black or all-white version. overall though, i love it!

Bought two of these and only one works. The defective one has power, but the fan won't spin. The one that works isn't particularly quiet on its lowest setting.
