What a relief.,
This review is from: Lasko 6410 Designer Series Oscillating Ceramic Heater (Kitchen)
I started out with a little Holmes heater that was $5 cheaper that i got from wal-mart, but the thing was horrible, took forever to heat up a little room even.
I was skeptical of something that looked decent, and assumed it wouldn't perform all that great... but boy was i surprised. Heats up real quick, nice auto temp set of 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, and 'Max'.. along with manual settings, and oscillating that creates no more noise than the heater does, which is minimal for a space heater. Also has 4, 2, and 1 hr timers on it. Only downsides, it beeps loud like a microwave with every button you touch, which gets annoying, and it would be nice if they made space heaters with 24 hour timers on them, to plan heating for when i wake up, but none of the kind exist. Great buy, i think it was 40ish from wal-mart, very happy with it.

Very happy with this purchase. I previously owned the Lasko 755320 Tower Heater with Remote. That one lasted about 5 years and when it was time to replace it, I purchased this one, Lakso 6410.
The reasons I got this one instead is that for me personally, I found the remote unnecessary and never used it. This one heats just as well as the Lasko Tower with Remote, takes up less space, more attractive design and cost less. Many people have ask questions regarding increase in electric bill. I have found that if you do not use the oscillating function you will not see much of an increase in your electric bill. But with using the oscillating function you will see a bigger increase in electric bill. Not sure why it cost so much more to oscillate but that has been my experience. Basically when running this heater my gas bill has decreased by 70.00 and electric has increased 20.00. So overall it saves me about 50.00/month. But it not only saves me money every month it also increases the temperature in my home to a nice, toasty, comfortable level without the fear of a HUGE gas bill. Just remember, nothing can replace a little weather stripping around your doors/windows and sealing off drafty spots to keep the warm in and cold out. But Lasko heaters are a great and dependable product that will help increase the temperature inside your home at a minimal cost. Ceramic heaters cost less to run that regular electric heaters, always get ceramic. UPDATE: 12/26/2010 - Since the cold weather is kicking in and people will be looking for new space heaters I wanted to update this review. This product is still working great but the one problem I have found with it compared to the Lasko Tower I did own is this.......Being in the south, we have no basements, therefore from the floor up to about your knees, the temperature is always colder. Because this heater is smaller in height than the Lasko Tower even if the temperature in the house is at 70, if I set the heater at 70, it wont shut off because it doesnt realize the temp above it is warmer. The Lasko tower heater due to it being taller would adjust better to the rest of the temperature in the house and shut off. So I have to set this one at 65 and when the house reaches 70 it will then shut off. So if you live in a home with no basement, this is something to keep in mind. My next heater will be the Lasko Tower with Digital display. I like this one, it looks good but I liked the Lasko Tower more because it worked better for my personal situation. If you have a basement this is not a problem you will probably experience. But for those of you who live in the South, you know what I mean and its something you may want to consider when purchasing. Also DO NOT use this with an extension cord. It will heat up the extension cord to potentially unsafe levels.

After receiving a gas bills of around $250 for two months in a row (and I live in Houston, TX, not in some ultra-cold climate), I decided I needed to do something about the drafts in my house besides just turning up the heat. I researched a number of small electric heaters and finally decided on this one. I have now been using it for about 3 weeks, and even though I haven't received my new gas bill, I am quite sure it will be substantially lower because I've been able to keep the house thermostat low while just using this heater to warm the room I'm in.
Here is what I LOVE about this heater: * Design - it is nice to have something that it attractive sitting in your living room, rather than a plain white or silver tower. Plus, it's fairly small and lightweight, and so it's easy to take from room to room. * Thermostat - this is my absolute favorite part of it. I just set it to the temp I want my room kept, and it will turn itself on and off as needed. I use this in my bedroom at night...it's wonderful! * Low/high - sometimes I just want a little heat near my feet while I'm working at my desk, and I don't want to run it at full 1,500 watts, so it's nice that it has a lower-energy 900 watt setting. * Quiet, oscillating fan - this heater is less noisy than most fans or air purifiers...it's a very quiet hum...and the oscillation is nice because it helps heat a wider area more quickly. * Price - you have to love something that keeps you warm wherever you are, for just $40, compared to gigantic winter heating bills! I am absolutely THRILLED with my purchase of this heater and highly recommend it!

PROS
This heater looks great and heats up a room quickly(25' X 15' < 1 hour) its big and tall great for large rooms CONS not so great for small bedrooms (hard to regulate temperature) when u first plug it in you need to press like 5 different buttons to get the settings u want... annoying loud BEEP every time you press a button only oscillates 90 degrees. not a true thermostat... more like a glorified timer

A high quality heater that looks like a work-of-art!,

This Lasko heater is very stylish and well-built, has excellent controls and thermostat, good heat output, and oscillates (if desired). It's really one of the classiest looking heaters available, especially in this medium price range. And even though a cheap, white plastic utility heater will, realistically, supply the same heat output, someone who purchases this Lasko unit will do so for the look, build-quality, and pride-in-ownership, rather than just as a simple heater.

To-be-expected Space Heater,
By Eddie (Marietta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lasko 6410 Designer Series Oscillating Ceramic Heater (Kitchen)
To start, I must say that my TRUE rating is for 3.5 stars...the heater is just not good enough for me to round up to 4.
This heater performs as expected. We have the item in our master bedroom due to a redesign of the space, in which the heating vent was moved near the door which allows the heat to escape to the return vents in the hall before it circulates the room. We're in Atlanta, and the nights get pretty cold during the winter months. The room is 12 x 16, and with the doors (to the hallway and master bath) closed, the room gets plenty cozy with the space heater on high. On low (which is just a lower heat setting with the same fan speed), it gets there, but just not as quickly. However, with the doors open, the area immediately in front of the heater gets warm, but the rest of the room barely feels like its even on. In short, if you're using this to keep a medium sized, closed area warm (just about any bedroom) then this space heater will definitely get the job done and is worth every penny. But if your 'space' is a small part of a large space, don't expect it to even keep the 'area' warm. We need a space heater for a finished basement sitting area, and don't plan on purchasing this one again. Here are my pros, cons, and comments on items other people have mentioned: PROS - Design does fit into typical room decor. Doesn't stand out like typical space heaters do. - Oscillation is a nice feature. Its true that it doesn't turn much, but it turns enough to cover a good area. - Timer is a great feature. All space heaters should be equipped with this. - The unit itself does not get warm, which is a plus. Makes for easy handling, even immediately after use. - Radiates good amount of heat for such a small unit. CONS - Thermostat doesn't seem to be sensitive or accurate. Setting it to 65 degrees (with a digital thermometer in the room), the unit didn't shut off until ambient temp was 73 degrees, and turned back on at 68 degrees. - Again, gets a medium-size, closed space warm, but anything more than that is asking too much of the unit. - Unit needs to be on to maintain warmth for longer periods. - Even though I don't expect it to keep a large area warm, I would expect it to keep a small portion of a large area warm based on its location. However, it doesn't stand up to that test (Why? I am not sure). If the area is not closed off, you might as well try to keep warm by burning a candle next to you instead. COMMENTS - Some reviews complain about the power cord getting warm, and even hot to the touch. We have run the unit for about 3 continuous hours, and after that, the cord is relatively warm, but not alarmingly warm. I can't attest to how warm it would be after 5+ hours of continuous use, but I don't consider that to be 'normal' use either. If its a major concern, shut the unit off and unplug it for a few minutes here and there, or set the thermostat lower so it shuts off more frequently during extended use. - The fan noise generated is really white background noise. My fiance is a light sleeper, and it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Its no noisier than the heat coming from our vents. Not sure why some reviewers have an issue with this.

I have had it for a few months now and overall it is pretty nice. You can only set the temperature in 5 degree increments. 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, and 85 are the options. I have it set at 70 degrees and it keeps my place 71-74 degrees. It doesn't turn all 360 degrees, only a little under 90 degrees. It stays cool to the touch, except for the metal screen. That part gets very hot but the rest of it can be touched even when the unit is on (my dog knocks it over sometimes), although 80% of the unit is cool. It also doesn't shut off automatically if it falls over. It is not loud, I rarely even notice it is running; it is much quieter than my other space heater. Well worth the price in my opinion.

Has smell the first use but no Oder thereafter. We use this heater in our bedroom, so we don't have to heat up the entire house to have a warm bedroom. We also bought another one for our family room. The Winters are very cold where we live. These heaters pay for themselves in comfort and savings for use as area heat.

Hot! ... Looks great and works great,

In Houston there is not much occassion for a heater but when the occassion rises it should work well. For the last two "winters" (haha) I have avoided being downstairs at all. The home's central heat rises up and keeps the upstairs toasty but the downstairs feels like a meat locker even with the central heat on 90F! I had never considered having a space heater at home but had used one successfully at work in freezing cold office spaces so I finally had a light go off to get one for the downstairs heating dilema. Last night there was finally an opportunity to test out this heater and I am thrilled at how it subtly warms the space and looks good enough to house in a stylish living room! This looks great and heats very well with zero issues. Enjoy! BTW: I shop Amazon constantly but I will confess that I did purchase this at Wal-mart for $40.00. Big savings unless you want the convenience of it arriving on your door-step.

My husband and I were looking for a space heater for our small house. I looked all over amazon and we decided on this one. We've had it a week now and it's great! It heats up a small space quite quickly, is quiet enough to sleep to, and it oscillates! The timer is useful so we can set it to heat for a short period of time. Here are some things I've discovered:
-You can ask it to turn off (1-7 hours) but not on. -You can set it to turn off after reaching a certain temperature only on HI, not on LOW (LOW = Max temperature) -It stays very cool to the touch -The cord is a very good length I hope you enjoy it as much as we have! |
