I bought this heater to try to warm up an addition on our home. We've lived here 12 years, and every winter, we've frozen in the den. It's built on a crawl space, and new insulation, windows, and roof haven't helped. Needless to say, I've tried several heaters. Just got the Lasko this week, and it's the first one we've tried that heats the entire room. We're actually at 69 to 70 degrees. Also, it's quiet and the back of the unit stays very cool, so it can be placed right up against a wall. I am loving this heater!

I just bought this last night at a local home-improvement store (for less than a new one here). I got an extended warranty on it. I plugged it in, turned it on, it started pumping out heat right away! In less than 10 minutes, it heated up my 11x10 living room from 63 degrees to 73 degrees. I am very impressed with this guy, the unit does not feel hot to the touch, it does what it says, and I really like the remote it comes with. FOUR STARS!

Bought this one with remote and two of the same with no remote. This one heats a 300 sq ft kitchen and the other two heat a 550 sq ft living room. All rooms have 10 ft ceilings. We decided not to replace our central heat and use space heaters since it rarely gets below freezing here in SE TExas. These work great. We put in front of the large windows- they can be put right up against a wall. Set the thermostat at about 68 and quickly takes the chill out of the air. I am very happy with these. I am going to buy one for every room in our house. Very cost effective heaters with the digital thermostat and auto feature. Buy.com has them for 79.99 with free shipping.

Strengths:
Powerful heater, it warms up a room fairly quickly. The heated air can be directed horizontally or vertically with the vent control. This heater would be a good choice in cold climates. Thermostat seems pretty good at keeping the room at a constant temperture. Has auto (thermostat controlled), low, high heating modes. Only the low heating mode is quiet. Cool to touch, can be placed against wall. Remote control works well. Weaknesses: Unit is not as quiet as would be hoped. This may be an issue if you are watching TV or going to sleep with the heater on. In the low heat mode, the fan is fairly quiet, but then the heater will remain constantly on (the automatic mode that controls the heater using the thermostat uses both high and low heat modes). The remote control can help alleviate this problem. Unit is LARGER than most alternatives (be sure to note dimensions). Not as easy to store in summer months. Remote control "beep" from the unit is pretty loud.

I have been absolutely thrilled with my Lasko ceramic heater. Other reviewers were accurate when they described a foul smell coming from the machine during the first period of use, but this eventually went away and I was left with wonderful, powerful heat. I don't find myself using the ionizer function, as I'm not even quite clear on what this function does, but the heater performs marvelously.
One of my biggest concerns was with regard to the location of the heat coming from the unit, as we have a pet who likes to get a little too close to heat sources sometimes. First, there is absolutely no heat coming from the back of the unit. This allowed me to place the unit right up against the wall without fear of it burning the wall behind the unit. Second, the heat is dispersed from the top of the unit which can be adjusted from a 45-degree to a 90-degree angle, depending on your preference. I really enjoy the thermostat feature and the ability of the heater to turn off once it reaches my desired heating level. Finally, some reviewers have commented about the noise of the unit. I find the heater to be quieter than an oscillating fan, even when the heater is used at full-strength.

A Digital Space Heater Just Makes Sense,
By
This review is from: Cyclonic Ceramic Room Heater (Kitchen)
I live in a 1920s eight-unit apartment building. While the steam heating system is strong, I have no control over it other than turning the valves on or off. This occasionally causes problems, such as when I turn the radiator in my bedroom off overnight (otherwise it'll hit 75°+ in the room) and then wake up cold. I am entirely dependent on the thermostat in the basement (which I have no access to) kicking in. As a result of the scenario I am in, my bedroom can be anywhere from 63 to 80 degrees. Since I also have my computer in my bedroom I need it to be at least 70 all weekend. That's where my demand for a space heater developed.
I had first set out to purchase an oil-filled heater since I've had good experiences with them in the past, primarily because they are silent. However, I couldn't find a unit with a remote control, and this was essential to me - as I want to be able to turn it on from my bed before getting up in the morning. After reading favorable reviews about this unit I went ahead and purchased it. Coincidentally, when I returned from the store, my bedroom was 63.8° by my desk. I plugged in the unit and set the thermostat to 70. I placed my Oregon Scientific Thermometer next to it to check the accuracy of the thermostat. By the wall the temperature was around 59. My bedroom, which is about 125 sq. with about 8'6" heigh ceilings, reached 66 degrees by the wall in about ten minutes. Both the thermostat and the thermometer read the same temperature. In reality though, two feet from where I was sitting, it was 72, which I noticed when I moved the thermometer back to my desk. It is important to remember that if you place the heater by an outside wall you can probably set it to several degrees less than what you require for the room. I now set it to 63 to keep it around 71 by my desk four feet away. The fan was louder on the "high" setting than I expected, but remember, I was used to oil-filled heaters. Overall the air circulation, supposed energy savings, and cool-to-the-touch advantage are probably worth it to go ceramic. The thermostat feature only uses the high fan. If you want to let the very quiet "low" setting run, you'll just have to chance its effects. The thermostat range is 39 to 90°F (4 to 32°C), so you can use this for many applications, from keep pipes from freezing to throwing a beach party. Canadians and scientists take note: You can switch the display to Celsius! There is also a timer function. This is a "sleep timer" not a "wake up timer" like many air conditioning units have. Keep this in mind. Finally, the heater has an ionizer (to clean air), which can be separately turned on and off. Buying a digital heater to me seemed logical. Nowadays almost all the A/C units being sold are digital and have a remote, so I don't understand why the space heater industry has been lacking behind. You want to be able to "set it and forget it", and that's exactly what this heater lets you do. While not perfect, I believe this heater is currently the most modern option available at a reasonable cost. Pro: Size, digital thermostat, remote control, ionizer, sleep timer, remains cool, powerful Con: No wake up timer, thermostat only uses louder "high" setting

Product is terrific. Received yesterday and my finished basement(1000sq ft.) is already warm and toasty. Product has very intuitive controls and auto temp control is terrific. Love the fact that it has a timer so you can govern your electric bill.
The great thing about this item is the fact that it pulls cool air up through a bottom vent and then the heated air exits through the vents on top. This really circulates the air and warms up the room very quickly. Power consumption doesn't appear to be too bad. Doesn't trip the circuit breakers even on high heat. Price is fantastic for what you get. Build quality seems very strong. We'll see if the ionizer does anything. Can't hurt.

UPDATE: Seems like the noise I previously reported has soften somewhat during these days. Maybe there is a break in period for the cyclonic fan... I don't know, but at least I can now fall asleep. It's still noisy in comparison to other heaters but I am very happy nonetheless. The remote is key btw. I use it every night to turn it on and/or set the timer. I can even use it in the dark since the function buttons are surrounding the one large power button. You remember where the timer button or temperature button is located and you definitely know which is the power button.
The bottom line is that this heater looks great against the wall, taking very little space in depth and with it's manual 90 degree rotation for output flow, it easily heats up my 15x15 drafty renovated room, when compared to smaller 1500watt heaters. The remote is very convenient to use while waking up in the morning BUT this is NOT the quietest heater I ever had. Since Auto Temp control only works in high setting, if you want to go to sleep with the heater ON while using the Timer, the noise from the fan will keep you awake. The rotation noise is flawed and is even louder than my air purifier. I will be exchanging this model at Sears to see if this was just an isolated incident and will update this review with the details in the future. Overall, a great heater that looks great against the wall and does a very good job at heating a room, despite the noise.

We've shopped and shopped and bought several types of electric room heaters (panel heaters, oil filled baseboard and radiator styles, etc.), and we haven't been happy with any of them. This Lasko heater has ended our search! It pumps out lots of heat and the louvered adjuster lets you direct the heat straight into the room, straight up, or anywhere in between. The fan is not silent, but it also isn't obnoxious! We have it in our bedroom and we sleep fine with it running. Probably the best feature is the very accurate thermostat control that lets you set a digital temperature. It brings the room up to that temperature and shuts down when not needed. That saves energy. The remote control is a really convenient addition. The one possible down side is its size. The heater is large, but it is designed so that you can put it right up against a wall with no concern for safety. So you should be able to find a convenient location in any room. Like all space heaters, it works best in a closed room, but we've used it in our large open family room, kitchen, dining room with good results compared to other room heaters. We like it so much we are ordering another!
