Another movie that deserves a DVD release,
By Darren Harrison "DVD collector and reviewer" (Washington D.C.) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

This little known movie stars Tom Selleck as an American jewel cat thief in pre-World War II London. It's a great movie and has an incredible supporting cast including Bob Hoskins as a police officer doggedly on the title characters trail. Adding beauty to the movie is former Bond girl Jane Seymour as Selleck's girlfriend and the impossibly sexy Lauren Hutton as a Nazi.
With OTT Nazi's as the villains this movie truly is a great ride and a DVD release is long overdue. There is a DVD available in Europe (Region 2) for those of us with region-free players.

Vastly underated,

This is a much overlooked crime thriller, with a delightful combination of charm and suspense. Selleck plays a succesful cat burglar in London just before the outbreak of WW11, coerced into helping a brutally determined British cop, brilliantly played by Bob Hoskins, into stealing a fortune of diamonds from the Nazis. The Nazis are suitably menacing, Hoskins roguishly deceitful, and the finale has a clever and unsuspected twist. All in all, one of the better crime thriller's I have seen.

Tom Selleck, Jane Seymour, an Bob Hoskins have great chemistry in this movie and the twists and turns keep you glued to the screen to see what will happen next. I hope the "powers that be" put this on DVD soon!!! Do you hear me??

Entertaining But Somewhat Uneven,

LASSITER is a movie about a jewel thief in London during the years just before World War II. After an arrest he is pressured by British law enforcement and the FBI into attempting to steal a horde of gems from the German Embassy. The film is a fairly entertaining romp but there are problems with the script and some of the actors seem to be miscast. The movie does have many excellent sets and Tom Selleck gives a strong performance as Lassiter. The supporting cast includes Jane Seymour, Laura Hutton and Bob Hoskins. Hoskins is particularly good in the role of Inspector John Becker.

ONE OF THE BEST SELLECK MOVIES,

I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Selleck as the charming and romantic cat burglar. Not only was the story interesting, but it had some kinky twists that added flavor. Also, the casting was excellent, all the characters were well selected. The setting in London gave the movie a very nice ambiance and the ending was a nice surprise. The total package was delightful.

I have seen this movie sometime back and always enjoyed watching it and it is not a movie that anyone under 13 should watch. All the characters are good in their prspective roles. and of course Tom S. rates high on my list of good actors. There is some comedy in it , but not much, but it still is an enjoyable movie.

A Stylish Movie,
This review is from: Lassiter (DVD)
We were so eager for this movie that we finally bought a used copy on VHS, because there's currently no US Region 1 DVD for sale. This is an old favorite with Tom Selleck as an elegant thief, Jane Seymour as his girlfriend and Lauren Hutton as a couture clad Nazi. Selleck as a second story man in black turtleneck is reminiscent of Cary Grant in "To Catch a Thief". Hutton as nemisis is as lethally efficient as a black widow spider. WWII European architecture provides a evocative backdrop.
