From Library Journal
In Fraser's two previous novels about a British officer in World War II, Major Hardrow fought in North Africa, was captured and interned in Italy, and then escaped. This volume shows him commanding a company in the Normandy invasion and also, unexpectedly, being called to Madrid to help make contact with antiwar Germans who hope to negotiate peace. Though based vaguely on historical incidents, the undercover material is less convincing than the accurate accounts of Allied battle tactics and invasion forces in the bocage country of Normandy. Though a fine military novel, this is a marginal purchase without the first two books in the series ( Adam Hardrow and Codename Mercury.), which the publisher only released in England.
