Book Description

9 and upRadio Theatre
Fully dramatized and produced with cinema-quality sound design and music, each title in Radio Theatre's Chronicles of Narnia is now available in a travel-friendly size. Hosted by Douglas Gresham, stepson of C. S. Lewis, these timeless classics have mesmerized millions around the world. Upon entering an enchanted world called Narnia, four ordinary children learn extraordinary lessons in courage, self-sacrifice, friendship, and honor. Brought to life in London by a cast of more than 100 actors, including award-winners Paul Scofield, David Suchet, and Ron Moody, the 7-part Chronicles of Narnia provides over 22 hours of exhilaring listening entertainment.

The Last Battle:A powerful script and stellar cast mark this final installment in the acclaimed Radio Theatre adaptation of C. S. Lewis's most famous work. What begins as a self-serving scheme by an evil ape quickly turns deadly, as the fierce Calormenes invade Narnia and claim that their god, Tash, and the Great Lion Aslan are one and the same. Young King Tirian and his comrades must fight for the survival of Narnia. The Last Battle, though the conclusion of the series, is also a beginning--with a timeless message that listeners will treasure.

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

An evil ape and a good-hearted donkey introduce the final chapter in Lewis's classic allegorical series, The Chronicles of Narnia, in which all of Narnia's children come home and the great lion, Aslan, reveals his master plan. As it did in earlier installments, Focus on the Family pulls out all the stops with respect to casting, performance, and special effects. The shining star in this production has to be its casting. Each of the dozens of actors, from the main characters down to the most incidental field mouse, fully inhabits his part. Suspension of disbelief flows naturally from these stellar performances. Sound effects and music frame the story, supporting the plot perfectly without calling attention to themselves. What a fitting way to end the series! R.P.L. 5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless story now brought to life by Focus on the Family, February 5, 2003

We already have the full collection of Chronicles of Narnia books, but this radio theater version is a very welcome addition. As adults, my husband and I were as captivated as our children while listening to this series on CD. This is more than simply a book being read aloud, it is like really being there and hearing the story unfold. We especially enjoy this CD series for trips in the car, as the time passes quickly while enthralled with the plot. It is a wonderful book series, and if you can't find time for reading, this is a great way to expose your family to good writing. "The Last Battle" happens to be the last book in the series, so be sure to start with "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" first. I don't know if Focus on the family has produced the entire series yet or not, but we've listened to those first two and loved them.

My children (ages 7 & 9) are experiencing Narnia just as I did as a child. This was our 3rd book on CD in the Chronicles. I wish it was our first. The Radio Theatre cast is incredible. My children were transported to Narnia via the actors and the sound effects. Having a cast of actors brings more depth to the story. They ask to hear it again and again. Well worth the investment. There is a Narnia set from the Radio Theatre and I may buy it even though we have 2 books from other narrators. It is that good!
