This review is from: Last Of The Belles [Slim Case] (DVD)
Basically a story within a story, the movies shows us the life of F. Scott Fitzgerald as he produces his work "The Last of the Belles" which is played in the second half of the movie. Both tell the story of a woman whose peak in life was as a much-in-demand Southern Belle who time comes to pass and she must move on to something she perhaps is not dreaming about. Blythe Danner plays the wife who undersands that she has lost her identity in the world of F. Scott Fitzgerald, that she is no longer the "Belle of the ball" and longs to find something that she can call her own. Richard Chamberlain is fine as the flip live-for-today author who realizes he needs to move forward as well or his ship will be sunk. And Susan Sarandon as the "last Belle" is charming and a little scheming and coy, though probably no more than any popular girl in any time in history. Good acting, nice piece of nostalgia, well worth the time it takes to watch if you are a fan of period pieces and quiet drama.
