Growing up in this part of the state caused this to be of particular interest. We have several copies and are constantly loaning them out. Everyone seems to enjoy them even the ones not from Texas. Great read.

This is the fabulous story of the East Texas Field, the largest oil field in the Lower 48. It chronicles its improbable discovery, the "gold rush" atmosphere that followed and the early regulation of the oil and gas industry in Texas. The book is more exciting than most adventure novels. Along the way, the reader will meet Dad Joiner, Doc Lloyd, H. L. Hunt, Ernest O. Thompson and Lone Wolf Gonzalez, the Texas Ranger sent in to restore order. It should be essential reading for anyone interested in the history of the oil and gas industry.

Absolute great read that is factually correct, which makes it even more intrigging. I published the daily newspaper where "Dad" Joiner discovered the East Texas oil field, but it's an interesting read regardless of whether you think you have a connection or not, i.e., historians say that discovery of the East Texas oil field enabled us to win World War II. So, basically, all Americans have a connection.
