4.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Father's Jeff Healey, but what's here is Treasure!
Jeff pours out is heart and soul in music of a by gone era that will never go out of style. Each song has been well recorded and will undoubtedly immortalize this versatile talented artist. While true, not the typical blues folk rock that many fans (myself included) have come to know and love, it does stand up well to the early 20th century recordings Jeff is trying to...

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not the Jeff Healey I was expecting, but......
I didn't know Jeff had passed. I'll miss him. He was great.

This is not a typical JHB CD. This is Jeff recreating the music that he loved and collected- the jazz of the 20's & 30's. I had no idea what a vinyl head he was, and that his collection of jazz discs numbered in the thousands. Think about F. Scott Fitzgerald, speakeasies, the whole Gatsby aura and...

Jeff does a great job of recreating the era. If it's what you like, go for it. It's just not my cup of tea.

While true, not the typical blues folk rock that many fans (myself included) have come to know and love, it does stand up well to the early 20th century recordings Jeff is trying to capture and emulate. Taken for what it is, it hard not to appreciate the wonderful notes and melodies on display here. Jeff has made the world a better place and he will truly be missed by all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Listen to samples before you buy, July 8, 2010

Wow, what a suprise if you are expecting Jeff Healy to play his standard excellent style of blues. This is NOT blues and I would recommend that you preview all cuts before purchasing so you are not disappointed. It's not what I was expecting, however it is done well. Love Jeff Healy, don't like this CD so much.

While generally I am a huge fan of Jeff Healey's music, this CD was not what I expected. I guess that 20's and 30's big band jazz and dance is not my cup of tea. This is not a knock on Jeff, guess that maybe I should have read the entire review before making this purchase.

This was Jeff's favorite kind of music, and these recordings were a somewhat secretive project of his. He played trumpet and guitar in addition to singing vocals, and dubbed over himself in a way that he couldn't do in a live performance. The effect is beautiful. If you are only a fan of Jeff's early rock music, you won't like this album, but if you are appreciative of his beloved Jazz Wizards, this is definitely your style. It saddens me greatly that Jeff Healey won't be making any more music like this. The bonus video, recorded just 8 months or so prior to his death, is a wonderful addition. Plagued with cancer, he still sounded great, and the enjoyment on his face was beautiful. Awesome CD.
