Lee Ann is so beautiful and has such a clear voice. I absolutely love the song and video. Will buy it tonight as soon as I get home ;)

Just read about "Last Call" on the MySpace blog of songwriter Erin Enderlin, who cowrote this song with Shane McAnally. This story is about a former girlfriend of Shane's. Wow.

This song will hopefully bring the strength needed to all people to not let themselves be used by others, and encouraged those with alcohol problems to seek the "help they need." Wish this song had been around 30 years ago when I needed it! Great to hear it now. Makes me proud of myself, at long last. Lee Ann Womack gives it her all, as usual, and no one else could deliver the message quite the way she does. Great message to give to the world. Five stars to everyone concerned!

"Last Call" ~ story behind the song

Picture it...March 5, 2008 - I get a text message from my friend Courtney that Lee Ann Womack is in the studio with legendary producer Tony Brown cutting my song! Let's just say I was a little bit excited. By now I'm sure you know that song is called "Last Call" but I'll just clarify for posterity. Let's back up to the beginning of this little adventure.

October 31, 2007 - my friend Shane McAnally and I meet for an afternoon writing appointment at Universal Music Publishing where I write. I had just gotten my hair "did" so I was feeling particularly stylish and creative - my hair guru Angela is quite amazing. So, Shane and I sit in writing room number six and start talking and rummaging through ideas. Shane has a couple of chords that he likes the sound of, and he starts talking about an old flame that called him out of the blue. Eventhough the infamous one's name - that shall not be spoken - was removed from Shane's phone, the number itself still stopped Shane in his tracks - like it was branded on his memory.

Taking in Shane's story, I started playing the chords he was riffing on and out poured the first couple lines of the song. It was amazing how easily the story started to come together. Shane and I went back and forth trading lines and chords - the song became almost like a zipper pulling our two creative minds together. Shane, who also goes by Shane Mack on MySpace, is one of the most talented people I know. I love writing with him so much, and I'm so glad that we have the opportunity to share this song and the journey it has started.

As a writer, I write a lot of songs, but it is still amazing to me how every so often the right combination of ideas, craft, and creativity come together to make something so magical that it seem to have a life of its own - and has the ability to move people, to share a story that people can relate to even if they haven't been in that specific situation. I've rarely experienced something more powerful than the connection that comes from a great song - and "Last Call" is one of those songs. I've played the song out on several occasions and had people come up and how that song moved them. I'm so grateful for the chance to meet people and get the chance to hear their stories and connect with them through music it is truly one the greatest blessing in my life.
