Last Chance is the third book in Christy Reece's second LCR trilogy. I would recommend reading the other trilogy and the other two books in this trilogy first because many of the earlier characters come up in the later books.

McKenna Sloan aka "Ghost" has been on the run from her past for years and helps Last Chance Rescue out at times. She helps them with the rescue, then disappears and reappears when she wants to. One of those rescues was of British billionaire CEO, Lucas Kane. Lucas felt some kind of connection and was intrigued to find out who his mysterious rescuer was. Not an easy task when one is skilled at hiding so he eventually goes to Last Chance Rescue to see if they could help. Of course Noah McCall, the head of LCR, is very protective of Mckenna and passes on the information to McKenna. Mckenna is a strong woman who has gone through hell and is always on the run from her past hoping it will never catch up with her. Lucas is the perfect person to break through the wall that she has erected over the past years. She doesn't get involved with anyone so they will not get hurt. Lucas is tenacious and will fight for her love and try to uncover why she is scared and on the run. They do fall in love but until her past is dealt with they have no future.

Mckenna is not the only one with secrets. Lucas Kane has some as well which actually help him in dealing with Mckenna's past.

Lucas is in love with Mckenna from day one and has to be tenacious in tracking her down and breaking through her walls. He has to convince her that he can be trusted in her heart. He has to make it her choice to come to him.

Mckenna is a strong heroine who deserves her happily ever after after the hell she has endured over her life. She is no wallflower and can take on the men twice her size. The chemistry between the two is hot and Lucas treats her like a gentleman would.

Christy Reece weaves a suspenseful and romantic story and keeps you on the edge of your seats until the final pages.

You will definitely have to read this book as well as the other LCR books. You will not be disappointed by any of them. According to Christy Reece's website, the next LCR trilogy will be release sometime next year. Can't wait!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grab onto LAST CHANCE!, May 2, 2010
This review is from: Last Chance (Last Chance Rescue Trilogy 2, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
In LAST CHANCE, Christy Reece delivers a perfect package in the passionate and intense conclusion to the 2010 "Chance" trilogy. This book combines a great blend of gripping suspense and strong compelling characters. Lucas Kane and McKenna Sloan are unforgettable. From the first moment you meet them, these characters steal your heart and win your admiration and loyalty. Once again, Christy Reece continues her incomparable ability to entertain her readers with an intriguing storyline, give them the happily ever after ending they expect, and leave them begging for more.

This is one of the very best romantic suspense series I've ever read. I can't wait to see what is in store for us in the next "Last Chance Rescue" trilogy scheduled for release in the spring of 2011.

Wow, I seem to be in the minority.

McKenna Sloan works with an agency called Last Chance Rescue who try to find kidnap victims and the criminals who take them. She meets Lucas Kane when he's kidnapped & she frees him. McKenna was a really tough person, who kept her life before LCR secret because of the pain it involved. That pretty much vanished when she got involved with Lucas who seemed to have little faith in her abilities & felt she needed to be "taken care of".

From the get go Lucas was not honest with McKenna. He let her think he was just in charge of his family corporation. He didn't tell her that he'd actually worked in a law enforcement agency before resigning to run the family business. He justified it by saying "He took an oath." He didn't have to tell her the name of the agency or any specifics so why the problem?

Lucas was manipulative & deceitful. For the first time in eight years McKenna opened up to someone. She told Lucas EVERYTHING, every horrifying detail. And he rewarded her how? Took her fingerprints from a dinner plate, called in the family PI and had her investigated. So when she told him her story he acted like he knew nothing even though he knew almost everything.

All through the book we were privy to the mind of a psycopath. All of a sudden he was gone, without punishement or finding out what he was thinking. That's when the book went downhill & unfortunately it continued downward.

What is it anymore with these capable, strong, dedicated women who turn into a wimp at the end of the book? Unless you're reading the series give this one a pass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Last Chance...hopefully not the last we see of LCR!, May 1, 2010
This review is from: Last Chance (Kindle Edition)
Having read all the books in this series,I hope this is not the last we see from the "Last Chance Rescue" heroes. I have enjoyed all three, but this may be my favorite. Hopefully Reece will continue w/this series. There are so many more possibilities to explore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense, action and most of all romance..., July 17, 2011

Of all the books penned by Christy Reese, this one really hits the mark. Lucas Kane represents the type of man every woman wants to meet and not because he is rich - Lucas is noble, protective, non-judgmental, and true. McKenna, despite a brutal past, emerges a strong, caring and independent woman. The suspense and action is wonderful, yet you find quiet and tender moments. Ladies, this book is a must read.

Damon - The most despicable evil villain. Lucan and McKenna - the sweetest couple. Found myself rushing though the book because I couldn't wait to find out what happened. The only downer is now I have to wait until August for the next book. Lucas and McKenna are definitely worth a re-read just to savor their relationship unfolding. Each of the LCR operatives has overcome adversity which makes for an exciting page turning story. Last Chance was just a WOW!!! Looking forward to reading about Honor, and especially Dylan and Jamie in the next installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspensful,sexy book, December 31, 2010
This review is from: Last Chance (Last Chance Rescue Trilogy 2, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Purchase this book, out of sequence, after reading "No Chance" (have ordered but not yet gotten "Second Chance). Wow! What an amazing book. I love the story of McKenna, and how strong, scrappy, wounded yet loving and vulnerable she is, despite her past. And she has met her equal in Lucas Kane. I completely fell in love with him, and had a hard time with the fact he was just a character in a book! It was amazing to see how much he loved McKenna, despite her work, despite her past and its ugliness. As others have reviewed, a very complex and suspenseful story, right up to the last page. I could not put it down once I started it. I do think this book could be read out of sequence - the author did give some background on characters that were in the other books, but might mean more if they had been read first. I didn't feel like I had missed anything by reading them out of sequence. Anyway, I highly recommend this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Fulfilling, July 27, 2010
This review is from: Last Chance (Last Chance Rescue Trilogy 2, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Loner secret-ops heroine, who makes great sacrifices in order to rescue women from human traffickers, has been on the run since escaping from her obssessive & abusive ex-BF who killed her family and kept her & abused her repeatedly when she was 17. She falls in love with wealthy businessman she rescued & who reciprocates her attraction & is on a mission to uncover what has her so distant & terrified despite her kick-butt attitude & work.

I thought that Reece's No Chance was very good but this book is truly excellent. I was only intending on reading a few pages before bed but ended up reading half the book after I told myself to put it down one last time. The romance & action-suspense of this book is THAT riveting! Great characterization & character development. Sexual chemisty & love scenes were hot & emotional. What speaks so well of Reece's writing is how she handled heroine's rape & sexual history. I'm often very bothered by main characters who have a rape history or heroine using sex as part of her job...usually ruins the book for me. But Reece showed how heroine's tortured past impacted her present & that hero's love for her included all of that...*sigh*.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bridget's Review, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Last Chance (Last Chance Rescue Trilogy 2, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
McKenna works for Last Chance Rescue and makes her living by saving lives. She has a history of disappearing and only reappear when someone is in danger. When a woman is kidnapped, McKenna decides to help.

She rescued Lucas and then wasn't heard from again. He spends half a year trying to find this "ghost". When she finds out that he is searching for her, her curiosity gets the best of her.

McKenna isn't looking for a relationship. She doesn't even like to be touched, and she has a very valid reason. When she disappears again, Lucas sets off to find her once again.

Last Chance is the first book that I have read by Christy. It certainly won't be the last! I love McKenna and her strong nature. She's one of those characters that you fall in love with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairytale quality romantic suspense, June 5, 2010

This review is from: Last Chance (Last Chance Rescue Trilogy 2, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is definitely one of my favorites. As the latest addition to the Last Chance Rescue series, it's beyond belief that a plot involving, yet again, sadistic killers, torture, rape, human trafficking and all that's bad, have an almost fairytale love story, but there you have it. If you haven't read No Chance, that would be a good read before this one to give you some background on our hero and heroine, however it isn't a necessity.

British billionaire, Lucas Kane, is obsessed. He's been spending the last six months searching for a ghost, at least that's what she calls herself. He was kidnapped, when this impressive slip of a girl swooped in to rescue him. His attraction to her then was instantaneous, but more importantly, he connected with her on a level he doesn't understand. He wants to find her to thank her and let her know if she needs a friend or anything at all, he's there for her.

McKenna Sloan, although affiliated with Last Chance Rescue, works alone. Called the Ghost, she is always on the run, hates to be touched, and disappears without a trace only to reappear to help save lives. Knowing what it's like to survive the wrath of a sadistic killer, she doesn't hesitate to sacrifice herself for what needs to be done to help other innocent victims. Although a trained killer herself, she finds she's still afraid of the man responsible for the death of her family and her own repeated rape and torture. When she learns that Lucas Kane is still trying to find her, she can't help but remember the spark she felt when she met him. Curiosity gets the better of her and she goes to him to find out why he's looking for her. As she sees him again, she's enthralled with the peace she feels when she's with him and they strike up a wary friendship. McKenna only stays a short period and disappears repeatedly, but during her visits with Lucas, she realizes she trusts him like she's never done in her life. When she finally tells Lucas her secret past and why she's always running, she learns that Lucas has a few secrets himself.

Lucas is nothing short of the dreamiest knight in shining armor. You can't help but love a man who is willing to do anything to protect you. His sacrifices for McKenna are without limit and their chemistry is explosive and erotic. The book also involved what can only be LCR operatives for future books, but their involvement is limited. It's a very fast paced, entertaining read and although you know there's a happy ending, it was even happier than that. I simply loved it.
