Book Description

All of history is secrets and lies.
The present is just a cover story.

A fairy isn't a being of light. Far from it. It is a malign entity. When Sherlock Holmes' brilliant creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle encountered the Fey , they made him believe that the infamous Cottingley pictures were images of real fairies. The fairy folk used his fame to 'prove' they don't exist - and destroyed his reputation.
Within their traditional haunts of hill fort and and barrow these creatures are dangerous enough, but now they are abandoning the countryside to infest our city spaces like urban foxes. They prey upon us and our unwillingness to believe in them leaves us wide open to attack.
As this centuries old, covert war heats up, it falls to a shambling figure known only as 'D' to keep us safe - and ignorant of the nightmares that lurk, hidden in the every day world that we call 'reality'.

A contemporary British fantasy, The Last Changeling is no fairy story. It reveals the hidden story behind present day real people, historical figures, and true events.

About the Author

F.R.Maher began reading at the age of three and quickly outgrew childrens’ books. At a village jumble sale as a discerning eight year old, the fortunate find of a collection of short stories by H.P Lovecraft was a turning point, and an early education in just how thrilling story telling can be. She grew up wanting to be an author, then got sidetracked by the tricky business of actually making a living. Having been hijacked into being an artist, lecturer and film maker, she finally returned to her first love, writing. The Last Changeling is an escape from the close confines of film budgets and her celebration of the kind of special effects no amount of money can buy - those created in the mind of the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars War on fairies! March 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
An excellent book and I really enjoyed it, the story is well written with real places and a cast you can visualise. It is intelligent and thought provoking, with many historical and up-to-the minute references. If you like Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings you'll love this book too. Looking forward to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dan Brown meets JRR Tolkien? February 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
If you like fantasy fiction and a good conspiracy theory then The Last Changeling is for you.
A brilliantly crafted story chock full of historical references and takes real people and events, some stranger than fiction, and weaves them into a page turning wonderland.
Faeries are the new vampires, chunkheads are the new werewolves.
You think Faeries are sweet little playful entities? Think again, in 'The Last Changeling' they are mankind's implacable enemy and have been since the dawn of time. With body burrowing arrowheads, and psychical powers to dance you to your death, they are a nasty collective piece of work.
Coupled to all this malevolence they steal babies, hence the book's title, 'The Last Changeling'.
And ranged on the human side are such luminaries as, Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, J.M. Barry, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill, and D of D9.
Heading D9 the human agency and equivalent of MI6/MI5 is D. The enigmatic character D, is the Bond of the underworld, man's last hope against the massed ranks of netherworld entities sworn enemies against the human race.
D9 is an organisation which is government funded and was initiated by Queen Elizabeth her self. Queen Bess that is, Elizabeth I, at the suggestion and guidance of John Dee her friend, confidant, and adviser, D9 is secret and hidden even from MI6/5.
In 'The Last Changeling', the metahominids are on the march something is stirring, they are gathering scheming and planning the final solution of mankind, namely our extinction.
The game is afoot let battle commence, mankind v metahominids.
I thoroughly enjoyed this readable and very believable tale, Fairy Tale?? It's stroon with historical reference and actual locations, a real page turner. Not for the feint-hearted. Those scratches bumps and thumps in the night will take on a totally different meaning when you've read this story. I can't wait for the sequel, and the good news is yes there is a follow on!!

Couldn't put it down.Fast paced,Imaginative throughout and best of all intelligent.Almost believable it was so well researched.Subtle humour and a hole free plot line. Really loved the historical references, Churchill's black dog was genius. Can't wait for book two.

I just loved this book. This is a fantasy novel with grit! It is so well researched you can easily believe that what it says is true. The characters are creations you want to get to know and the story line keeps you wanting more. This would be a great holiday read for anyone traveling to Britain to explore ancient sites. TLC brings the world of the fey right to your doorstep with intelligence and zest.
