This review is from: The Last Christian (Hardcover)
Having never read anything about St. Francis, I was looking for a book that would give a general overview without becoming too bogged down in heavy theology. This book by Austrian author Adolf Holl provided exactly what I was looking for. It's not a very common book, but if you get a chance to read it, I recommend you do so. St. Francis led a fascinating life, to say the least. His relentless commitment to "Lady Poverty" strikes modern readers living in capitalist societies as nothing short of astonishing. St. Francis was completely dedicated to modeling his life as closely as possible to the life of Jesus Christ. This book deftly outlines Francis's life while also detailing the growth of his Order and the struggles within the Catholic church hierarchy to come to terms with this influential little man from Assisi. This is valuable reading for any Christian today.
