Grand ole Country,

I urge you to pay close attention to the lyrics on this album - they are available on Shane's website if you want to check them out prior to buying - before jumping to conclusions about the songs. They are exceptionally good. I particularly like Just Married, where the word 'just' changes its meaning halfway through. There's a similarly keen edge to the words of Princess and Happy Hour. The sound is an echo of a Nashville of a previous generation. Some reviewers have likened it to the Country music of the late 70s, but really it is older than that -- Rock-infused rather than the crossover Pop-blended styles of the late 70s and early 80s. This may put some listeners off, as being a mere throwback. But, as I say, it's the lyrics that redeem these songs. There's an insight and a sharpness to them which make this album stand out and be a worthy addition to any Country or Americana collection. [PeterReeve]

Rich full and appealing voice...,

Shane Wyatt is a delight. His music is very catching, almost haunting... The Last Cowboy itself is a great bullet... Buy this! I consider it to be great travelling music... put it in your truck and DRIVE! I love to drive singing songs like these. Shane Wyatt has great appeal and a very well-trained voice. I predict a hit.

Brawny Country Baritone,
By Paul "Writer and listener..." (Lake Forest, CA, United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Last Cowboy (Audio CD)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
If you like Toby Keith's voice but can do without the jingoistic bluster, Shane Wyatt's Last Cowboy may be more up your alley. Wyatt's baritone combined with the albums polished production make for pleasing mainstream country music. The Last Cowboy doesn't step outside the lines of traditional country music but plays confidently within its boundaries.
