I wanted to dance,
By
This review is from: The Last Dance (Hardcover)
I was given this book about 3 years ago by my Grandfather. I was searching for it to try and buy it as a gift and found that no review had been written. A book this good needs 5 stars. My husband and I met dancing so it was very appropriate. It is tender yet also very happy. It also ends with a very good moral about dancing, singing and laughing. The watercolors are beautful and I enjoy the unique size of the book. A must have.

a beautiful book,

I have read this book repeatedly. It is beautifully written and beautifully illustrated. It also always makes me cry a little. The Last Dance is a good book on living life to the fullest. In our local library, they keep the book in a separated section from the other children's books, but I think that the children that could read it (or the ones with parents that would) could handle the reality of life and death.

Have Tissues Ready!,

This is a very touching story. I was surprised that a child's book would have me in tears LOL! Carmen Deedy is an excellent author and once again she has written a brilliant book! Beautifully written with gorgeous illustrations.

A very pleasant read about life and death for kids,
This review is from: The Last Dance (Hardcover)
The Last Dance is about life, love and death and the relationship between two children who grow old together. Bessie and Ninny are best friends and they learn from Ninny's grandfather that life is a dance when they visit Ninny's grandmother in the graveyard. They make a promise to each other after Ninny's grandfather dies that they will dance on the other's grave and never forget each other. As the years go by Bessie and Ninny marry, have a child, Ninny goes off to war where the country even needs tailors. Bessie remains home and waits for him to come home not knowing if he will. Ninny, oh Ninny! Come dance with me! For I'd hate to dance alone... This is the story of life, love and death ~ and a great book to read to children (age 6+) who have lost someone they love. There is a LOT of text so it's not one for beginning readers to read on their own ~ but if they have the attention span and you have the patience to answer questions it's a good way to let children know that life goes on and so does love.
