4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I don't give five star reviews, but in this instance, I was tempted. THE LAST DAY is unique among the books I've read in this genre. It is a startling, unsettling--but ultimately positive--look at what could happen at a "Second Coming." Not at all what you'll expect, be prepared for something thought provoking and eye-opening. Definitely different.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, worse than others
I'm a big fan of endtime novels, and was really looking foward to reading th Last Day. I was a little dissapointed, although I think that's only because it doesn't quite reach the level of quality that some of the reviews imply. The quality is better than most endtime novels such as the Left Behind series, but it still doesn't come close to some of the better works out...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story!, January 29, 2001

They don't come any more exciting than this. From the first page, this novel sizzles along at a dizzying pace, taking you on one wild ride into the unknown. The detail is astonishing. I can't imagine the hours of research that went into developing the plotline, but it is very well thought out, very tight. It's that attention to detail that gives this story such realism. The "What if?" scenario is completely credible. The suspense is unbearable. If you enjoy thrillers, this one delivers, and with a slam dunk ending you cannot anticipate. Two thumbs up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cathartic, January 31, 2001

If you want to let go of a lot of longstanding, pent-up emotions, this is the book to do it for you. I found myself silently cheering throughout, getting really caught up in what this book has to say. There are things in here that somebody should have said a long, long time ago. I'm thankful I've had a chance to see it happen. This man tells the truth, and he lays it on the line like nobody else I've ever read. It took guts to write this and I'm sure it's tweaking a lot of noses, but I say, more power to you, Glenn Kleier!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, January 14, 2001

I really enjoyed this. I like stories that are different and that involve your mind as well as your emotions. The Last Day does both. It engages you on both levels, with a story that is frighteningly believable, yet forces you to look at lots of interesting spiritual concepts in a brand new light. There is action, love, drama and evil, and a lot of really funny, tongue in cheek humor. The story's many twists and turns are not at all what I expected. I loved it and highly recommend it.

A FRIEND RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK TO ME AND I WANT TO PASS ALONG THE FAVOR. THIS IS THE MOST UNUSUAL BOOK I'VE EVER READ. IT READS SO INCREDIBLY REAL THAT YOU WOULD SWEAR IT'S TRUE. THE WAY KELIER WEAVES HISTORY, SCRIPTURE AND CURRENT EVENTS INTO THIS SUPERNATURAL ACCOUNTING OF JUDGMENT DAY IS NOTHING SHORT OF BRILLIANT. THERE ARE SOME UNSUAL THINGS HIDDEN IN HERE THAT YOU WON'T GET ON THE FIRST READ, BUT ARE REALLY AMAZING (AND OFTEN QUITE HILARIOUS) IN A SECOND READ. A GREAT DEAL OF RESEARCH AND THOUGHT HAS GONE INTO THIS STORY. WHEN YOU FINISH IT, YOU WILL SEE LIFE AROUND YOU IN A FAR CLEARER AND MORE OPTIMISTIC LIGHT.

4.0 out of 5 stars Involving, touching, exhilarating!, February 24, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found this book VERY hard to put down. The several engrossing plots, the numerous strong and intriguing characters expertly portrayed, and the spiritual, moral and earthly issues so vividly explored combined in a surprising emotional catharsis for this reader.

I was strongly drawn in by the early biotech aspects of this story, captured by the rapid and rapidly developing action, and completely absorbed by the evolving religious dilemmas, questions posed, answers given and profound expression of insight and faith.

This book will slake your many thirsts; it is gratifying to the heart, the mind, the body and the soul. It provides much to ponder that is relevant to our true lives and worthy of serious consideration.

Which ever you crave, good strong characters involved in high adventure, a glimpse of what the near future might hold, grist for your mind and heart to mull over, you'll happily find it here.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best novel on this subject, February 2, 2001
Having read nine novels in this genre now, I am delighted to have come across this one. It is the best of the lot by far. If any author has ever written a scarier, more suspenseful and meaningful apocalyptic novel than this, I'd like to hear about it. The Last Day is a heart-gripping read with very poignant social commentary. Excellent.

The quality is better than most endtime novels such as the Left Behind series, but it still doesn't come close to some of the better works out there, such as We All Fall Down and The Christ Clone Trilogy. Better than mediocre, but less than it could have been, I would say that the Last Day is only for those who are real fans of the genre.

1.0 out of 5 stars Silly, November 23, 1999
By
This is the dumbest book I've read in years. The plot is based on an interesting concept, but the way the book is written makes for an unpleasant reading experience. It's simply crude, long, and boring. I'm no defender of the faith, but the bigotry toward Catholics was crass, ugly, and repulsive. The hamhanded writing, cardboard characters, and silly ideas were hardly worthy of the cheapest thriller. I suppose this was cranked-out for the millennium, but it will be forgotten a minute past midnight. For an intelligent novel on a similar theme, Robert Stone's Damascus Gate is challenging and thoughtful. Unlike Last Day, it will make you think about faith without playing on misinformed prejudice and nonsense.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable, but ultimately empty, January 22, 2001
By
This is a good book. The writing is fast paced and well done. I read the whole novel in three days. Me problem is only that it didn't really say anything. If a novel is going to tackle God, I feel like once I finish it, I should have a better understanding of God and myself, and I didn't find that with The Last Day. There just wasn't any meat. If you are looking for a novel on a similar topic, but that really pushes into the subject of God and the End Times, I would recomend We All Fall Down, by Brian Caldwell. A superb novel that leaves you thinking for weeks about both God and humanity. The Last Day is worth reading, but it's not quite up to the level of We All Fall Down.
