It's got long tunes(Shame, The love I lost), tunes you have never heard(Oogum Boogum Song), tunes you haven't heard in twenty plus years(More,More,More, Doctor's Orders) and tunes you will never be able to get out of your head(ALL OF THE ABOVE). 17 songs on this album and the only one I don't care for is the modernised version of Got to be Real. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not all the best of Disco music is included here... Beware!
As a soundtrack compilation made by Sony/CBS, this CD should include all the original, FULL-length versions of Disco megahits as Cheryl Lynn's "Got To Be Real"... But it doesn't.
Best track of the album is "The Love I Lost" by Harold Melvyn and The Blue Notes. The rest... Just disposable!

When the first Pure Disco CD came out I was really into it because it had some hard to find tracks. This CD blows that away. THIS IS PURE DISCO and is essential to any fan. They also didn't cop out and throw some half-baked songs and try to make two CD's worth of incomplete songs. This CD is disco bliss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Disco Compilation!, December 7, 1999

Soundtracks with pure 70's disco is uncommon and this is one album with some great selections. You get the hard to find classic like "Let's All Chant" which has the capability to bring out those who never dance. There's the seductive "More, More, More" and the romantic "I Love the Nightlife" which are perfect for that special someone in your life. I love the extended version of "The Love I Lost" and "Got to Have Loving" is so mesmerizing. The only thing I have against this CD is the last track. Instead of unfamiliar repeats, why not another hit like "Born to Be Alive?" Relive the music all over again! Check out the "54" soundtracks as well. You will grow to appreciate them!

5.0 out of 5 stars MOST COMPLETE DISCO COLLECTION, July 28, 2004

This is the most complete disco compilation that I've ever found. It's got just about everything to get your disco collection jumpstarted. Great for playing at parties-you can play it all the way through without having to skip through any tracks. The thing I like best about this album was that the song, Let's All Chant was on it-very rare to have that song on an album of this caliber. Buy it-trust me-you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars MORE, MORE, MORE, August 15, 1999

The undisputed king of disco movie soundtracks (apart of course for Saturday Night Fever, duh), absolutely rox. Sister Sledge get the ball rolling with "He's The Greatest Dancer", and it just gets better with "Shame", "Everybody Dance", "More, More, More", "Doctor's Orders", and of course "I Love the Nightlife". Exceptional recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect synopsis of the disco movement., July 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Days Of Disco: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This CD chronicles the well-directed film in my mind. Just listening to these songs, many of which I heard for the first time, reminds me of various scenes in the film. Although I was not even in kindergarten when many of these songs came out, the preppy/yuppie lifestyle is something I know intimately--having grown up in affluent Westchester County, NY and attending such schools. This CD infuses my mind with with visions of my friends' older borthers and sisters who were living this post-college urban life in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Much more than a soundtrack, this CD is a great companion to the often maligned disco movement. See the film and buy the CD--the rest will fall into place.

5.0 out of 5 stars You just think you don't like disco ..., August 7, 2007
This review is from: The Last Days Of Disco: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Ok, well maybe you really don't and if so, this probably won't change your mind. However, do know that if you do take a chance and listen, you will have heard the best that disco has to offer. I play this compilation almost everyday at work and it really jumpstarts my day. I have heard people say that the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is the quintessential disco CD. Maybe -- but that is not my argument. You really owe it to yourself to hear this one time. And if I had to pick just one track to sell you on, it would be Doctor's Orders by Carol Douglas. If that doesn't at least make you think, "Hmmmm, I need to listen to some more of this" then forget, disco is not for you in any form. In any case please let me know how you managed to keep your feet still ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good movie, great CD, May 25, 1999

The movie was pretty cool. It was really the end of a generation, the characters very well portrayed. Now, this CD really grooves, great tunes that everybody remembers. Much much better than those disco compilations. I really like Chic and has 2 of them (I miss "Freak out" though)A MUST have for all kind of occasions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get the 70's Police!!!, July 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Days Of Disco: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I saw the movie and really liked it, and I just HAD to buy the soundtrack because the songs fit so well together in the movie. Although I was in kindergarten in 1977, I did know some of these songs while growing up, and I WAS a big fan of "Saturday Night Fever." (After all, I grew up in Brooklyn.) It's just one of those 70's compilations you MUST own. Much better than the Pure Disco series.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent and a half, February 8, 2010
This review is from: Last Days of Disco (Audio CD)
I have, as a musician and listener, grown in my appreciation of disco. Say what you will about the 1970s implications of 54 vs CB's, disco had the best players, and the instrumental work is amazing.

But that is not why I came. I am in town to tell you about the brilliant transformation of a piece of music.

India and Nuyocian Soul take a cheesy lounge piece, "I Love The Night Life" and make it into a brilliant piece of melodic soul jazz. It is stunning with its strong vocals, amazing bass playing, and new, highlighted beem of melody. Free of 70s soft rock clouds, it is spiced with vibraphone and ends with a tear inducing trumpet refrain straight out of 1950s Miles' playbook. . A song I hated is now a song I love, dearly.

As said in Nightlife's resurection. "Are you ready for this?"

Let's party. Let's boggie.

The film "Last Days of Disco" opens with the Carol Douglas recording of "Doctor's Orders". I saw the film a couple of times and couldn't shake that song, so I bought this soundtrack. This really takes you back, but it's a fun trip. If you were around then (1975-1980), I don't have to tell you what a dream it was, especially if you lived in New Orleans or some other big city. As I remember it, responsibility was practically non-existent! If you are too young to remember, take it from me, the main object was pursuit of pleasure, pure and simple (well, not so pure.) Lots of disco standards on this disc ("I Love The Night Life", "More, More, More", "Got To Be Real", "Good Times", "Knock On Wood"), as well as some I didn't remember so well. And I must mention that Miss Ross is represented by "I'm Coming Out". So, if you want to go back to that fabled time, here's a pretty good place to start your journey.
