A very good read !,
This review is from: Last Days of The Tiger (Paperback)
This book is not only a very good read, it also shows the authors good understanding of political, legal and economical matters as well as the good knowledge of the country the story is set in.
Just when you think the story was predictable, it suddenly turns a new direction. I am not a usual nighttime reader but this one kept me reading way beyond my normal sleeping time.

Page Turner,
This review is from: LAST DAYS OF THE TIGER (Kindle Edition)
I had received this book in consideration of a review. This was my first reading of this author's work. I'm convinced that I'll be seeking out some of his other works. Mr Mullen managed to do what few have been known to do for me.... Grab me right from the start and drag me, kicking and screaming, through to the end. There were plenty of twists right up to the end, which left me going "WHAT?". I'm not normally a reader of political thrillers because the political content usually bores me to tears. Mr Mullen's writing brought me through these details without me even pausing to yawn. Well done, Pat Mullen, well done!

What a Tiger!,
This review is from: Last Days of The Tiger (Paperback)
This is a brilliant and compelling echo of the social and political intrigues set in todays' Ireland, intertwined with this thriller writer's superb ability to blend a fascinating cocktail of murder, intrigue and corruption. The narrative so accurately portrays the contrasting and recognisable/familiar characters in this drama depicting the conflict against low standards in banking and politics and gripping the reader in suspense from beginning to end. His setting of the entire plot is based on a highly perceptive grasp of current affairs. Whilst action takes place in New York & Dublin, the occasional forays into the wids of Connemara are very evocative indeed.
This is not a book that one can afford to put down once started. It has a very touching soul and I love the way the chapters are kept short. Its like a good theatre keeping one up to date and in suspense with the various scenes! Anthony Previté, Connemara.

LAST DAYS OF THE TIGER,
By John cavi "John Cavaiuolo" (Southport, Ct. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Last Days of The Tiger (Paperback)
LAST DAYS OF THE TIGER Is a thrilling novel which combines a smattering of politics, murder, corruption, deceit, and betrayal with an intriguing plot that rivals Grisham, Lescroart, and Patterson, and makes for a captivating read. The novel is exceptionally well written, and the author does an excellent job describing the Irish political environment, as well as providing a panoramic view of the emerald isle. This page turner is an excellent summer read, and it merits five stars.

Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright,
This review is from: Last Days of The Tiger (Paperback)
I've just turned down the final page of Last Days of the Tiger. Such a fine thriller! Wonderful suspense--true suspense generated not by the readers not knowing what will happen but by their empathy with the characters groping in the dark--as I found myself absorbed into Ed Burke and his search. But Tiger has an ending that I don't think readers can possibly expect, and that ending was deeply touching, and made me want to sit quietly for a few minutes while all the reflections of the story sifted and settled through me.
This is the third book of Mullan's I've read and it is the best. I'm guessing that most writers like to feel that their latest work is the best, and, for my money, it's certainly true in this case. Tiger would make a terrific movie! The ugly underpinning of the story, man's stupid insatiable lust for power, has been given another mesmerizing telling in Last Days of the Tiger. Fine art from sad reality.

Politics and Crooks,

A well written book. We all know that a large number of politicians are not perfect. This book, although a novel, shows how they behave. And the crooks are as you would expect.
It is a good read!!!

I was looking forward to a good read but I was disappointed. The plot was a good one but it just didn't feel like it was thought out very well. Every other sentence ended with an exclamation point. Too many characters without any real substance to them. Then the characters kept saying the name of the person they were addressing over and over.
The characters need more substance to them and the conversations need to flow better. This is a complimentary copy that I have received to review.

Ok but not great,
This review is from: LAST DAYS OF THE TIGER (Kindle Edition)
I received a copy of this book free as part of the Book Rooster review program through Amazon. It is a genre that I read frequently and I was looking forward to it. While there was nothing overtly wrong with the book, there was also nothing particularly dynamic or engaging. I'm a nighttime reader who often finds myself saying..."just one more chapter" and then staying up till late hours reading. This story did not do that for me at all. The characters are not especially engaging and although the storyline/plot about corrupt government officials and their "minders" rings true, the ease with with Ed Burke convinces those higher up in power about his beliefs doesn't feel real. There was an unexpected twist at the end, but too many of the other events were far too predictable. I'd probably give this author another chance but wouldn't go out of my way to look for other books by him.

Last Days of the Tiger,

I recieved this book free to review. Not a page turner but an interesting book. A lawyer fed up with political crime in NYC returns to his home of Ireland only to find himself tangled up in a corupt political fiasco. Pretty much like other books of the genre, but I enjoyed the Irish prespective. I would probably read more from this author.

I have received this free for writing a review. The book started out fine but I lost interest with some of the twists and found the characters actions unbelievable at certain points. I figured that this may be the first book by the author. I don't like to give a lot of the book away, I liked the ideas with the corrupt politicans covering their tracks but wanted more realistic actions by the characters when facing the "dire circumstances". I may read another by this author but not sure if i would recommend to others.
