4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as his first... but still AMAZING! 4.5 Stars
I would give this a 5 star, except that I gave his first CD a 5 star, and this one doesn't quite measure up. In some ways, I agree with the first reviewer, Amos has grown up. Some of his vocals and overall sound are unbelievable. He is so unique and classic at the same time.

I would give this a 5 star, except that I gave his first CD a 5 star, and this one doesn't quite measure up. In some ways, I agree with the first reviewer, Amos has grown up. Some of his vocals and overall sound are unbelievable. He is so unique and classic at the same time.

Strangely, I enjoyed EVERY song on the CD except his first single 'Listen'. It is an alright song. The real treasures here are; Street Corner Preacher; Ease Back; Won't Let Me Go. Those are my three favorites from the CD, though there are a few others I absolutely loved as well.

Here are the tracks and how I would rate them (1-5):

1 Listen - 2.5 stars - it's alright. kind of grown on me
2 Won't Let Me Go - 4.5 stars - I love his high vocals in this one
3 Baby I Want You - 4 stars - loved this one also, very soft
4 Truth - 4 stars - this is classic Amos
5 What's Been Going On - 3.5 stars
6 Street Corner Preacher - 5 stars - might be the best track on the album
7 It Started to Rain - 4.5 stars - a very soft gem
8 Jails and Bombs - 4.5 stars - his most meaningful song, lyrically
9 Kid - 4.5 stars - another wonderful song, deep lyrics
10 Ease Back - 5 stars - super mellow
11 Better Days - 3.5 stars

Lots of 4.5's and a few 5's! This is really a wonderful CD that I would recommend to anyone, whether you are an Amos Lee fan or have never heard him before. I am sure many will consider this his best CD, but I would definitely tell anyone looking at Amos for the first time to get his first CD. There were so many amazing songs on that album, I don't know if he will ever top it. This CD, Last Days at the Lodge, is a huge improvement over his sophmore album, though. Overall, 4.5 stars and highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amos has GROWN! By far his best., June 24, 2008

I previewed the album and could tell immediately that it was a 5-star production. I've always like Amos, but this jumps from the "aural background" category to a full-sensory experience. Lyrically extraordinary and musically magnificent. I'm excited. (I rarely write reviews.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Amos Lee's latest release....., October 31, 2008
This review is from: Last Days At the Lodge (Audio CD)
Well, I went to the Amos Lee Show last night with my wife, here in Philadelphia and felt compelled to write a review of Last Days at the Lodge.

There are many gems on this LP and for the most part, singer songwriter fans will be happy with the purchase. "Listen" starts the LP out, giving fans what they know and love about Amos: smart, caring lyrics, tight vocals and a nice rhythmic jam. "What's Been Going On", another track with much airplay, will have you hitting the repeat button on your ipod over and over as well!

However, I need to mention there seems to be a few filler songs here too. Amos seems to have tried the Maxwell falsetto-RB-thing with songs like "Baby I want You." And although I applaud him for mixing it up, it just doesn't play up to his strengths as a singer. As with many singer songwriters, the record executives seem to push them for more material `while they're hot', often before they're ready (this I feel is the case also with Ray Lamontagne latest LP). Sometimes, it take years for a really good song to brew and that is why, first time fans would be happier with the LP Supply and Demand. Long time fans and music lover looking for something a little different will still enjoy Last Days at the Lodge. Oh and also, It is an absolute must to see Amos Lee live!

5.0 out of 5 stars By far my favorite Amos Lee cd yet! LOVE it!!, March 1, 2009

I'm relatively new to Amos Lee's music and I like every song I've heard so far but this cd is by far my favorite. I use music as a backdrop while I work on my art as well as for motivation while exercising and this cd has great slow tunes for my calm working moods and a couple really fun faster-pace songs for when you want to move!

My favorite tracks are LISTEN, TRUTH, and STREET CORNER PREACHER.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet & gentle music, December 5, 2008
By
This review is from: Last Days At the Lodge (Audio CD)
After trying out Lee Alexander and Barrie Maguire on his first and second albums respectively, Amos Lee turns to yet another producer, Don Was, for his third. It lives up to all expectations: no screaming, no shouting, no sudden loud noises. And though the bass lines are rich and deep, there are definitely no floor-shaking beats. This is sweet & gentle music. Just the way this old man likes it.

I love the man's voice and it's so good, so spiritually nourishing, to hear a singer who actually SINGS and clearly puts his heart and soul into doing so. It's also good to listen to songs that speak about other things beside the usual, the predictable and the tired. I could be mistaken but I could swear I hear Bob Dylan influences.

All songs are Lee compositions and he also plays guitars. His core rhythm section is made up of Doyle Bramhall, Jr on guitar, Spooner Oldham on keyboards, Pino Palladino on bass and James Gadson on drums but also making appearances are Greg Liesz on pedal steel, Rami Jafee on keys, Jamie Muhoberac on additional keys, Justin Stanley on keys, bass, drums, percussion, Don Was on keys and Patrick Leonard on harmonium & b-3. String arrangements are by the legendary Larry Gold.

It doesn't quite reach the dizzy heights of sweetness and angst that his self-titled debut Amos Lee did but I definitely prefer this to its follow up, Supply and Demand. Four very solid stars.

I have been an Amos Lee fan for years and have absolutely no idea how I didn't already have this cd in my collection. It is filled with soulful, bluesy melodies that are simply amazing. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys a cd where you can actually listen to every single song. Love, love this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, July 9, 2010
This review is from: Last Days At the Lodge (Audio CD)
Amos Lee is wise beyind his years. I had only heard two songs from this cd on WCLZ out of portland, me. and loved them both so I took a shot and purchased the CD.. All of it is good. Some of the songs sound a little like black bottom blues and some like Al Green and those are perfect mood music selections and the rest is folky and some songs sound like they were written at the turn of the century.. I travel in time as I listen to his stories... Luv this!!!!!!!

After listening to Amos Lee's new CD I was surprised to hear something different. His high pitched voice can out and what a different thing to hear from Lee. I certainly look forward to hear more from this fine artist.

I love Amos Lee ! This artist is awesome in that some of his songs hook you the first time you hear them. He exhibits more originality and creativity than in his earlier CD's; how often can you say that about a singer/songwriter? His music transports me to a good place. Unique voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soul, November 8, 2009

Love this CD. Glad that he daringly added his Soul roots onto this record. I hope he does a whole CD of deep Soul and Blues with falsetto and that wonderful grainy voice.
Then I also hope he does a CD that is more single genre in Folk like Supply and Demand.
Mixing Won't Let Me Go and Ease Back on the same CD was complicated. I love both and wish to hear all sides of this amazing Troubadour, perhaps in separate records.
Of course, this is HIS dream and I support it wholeheartedly however he does it. I listen to it often and play/sell it in our gallery - sells out every month.
Forever Fan
