A few years before her out-of-this world super stardom, Ella is nonetheless at her vocal peak in these recordings. Velvet smooth, she brings excitement to all the numbers. Fans of her legendary Cole Porter Songbook double album will find the same sense of fun, supreme professionalism, and joyous style. With arrangements by Sy Oliver, those who enjoyed Jukebox Ella from Verve will like this album as well.

If you're into Lindy Hop, this is a fantastic album to dance to. A favorite of mine is Solid as a Rock, but there are other very danceable songs on here as well, like "I've got the World on a String". Highly recommended to anyone who loves Ella Fitzgerald, jazz or swing.
