5.0 out of 5 stars Realistically written story
We read this book for my son's school book club (he is in 4th grade).

I really, really enjoyed this book on an adult level. I was an english major and sometimes read books a bit differently than others because of it. This book was interesting for me because the characters were so well thought out by the author. Many of the children (and some of the adults)...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars It's an okay book, not great
I found the book to be interesting, the characters were engaging. I did not like the ending or the viligantes beating the dog almost to death. And then the dog dies in the end. It's kind of an old yeller meets I am Legend. That's why i gave it a 3. I really wished i hadn't read the book.

We read this book for my son's school book club (he is in 4th grade).

I really, really enjoyed this book on an adult level. I was an english major and sometimes read books a bit differently than others because of it. This book was interesting for me because the characters were so well thought out by the author. Many of the children (and some of the adults) missed this fact but if you thought about it, all the characters reacted to their situations in very real ways. The children in the club wanted to reduce everyone to "good" or "bad" people and the fact that none really were one or the other opened up some nice conversations about human nature and is there really such thing as a purly "good" person or a purely "bad" person.

The book is a bit brutal in its description about how the dogs are treated, die and are killed. It is not anything that a child who was comfortable with the scarier parts of the later Harry Potter books could not handle. But, be warned, this book is a tear jerker. The author shows how humans react when they are faced with the tragic unknown, in all of their good and bad ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ExcitingThriller, May 9, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Hardcover)
A very exciting novel this book keeps you awake. It's actually scientifically informative. I could not put it down,I actually got in trouble for staying up past my bedtime(9:00)and reading until 11:00. It shows the story from different three points of view. From the points of view of Dr.Westerly,(the main scientist)
Jack (the last dog aforementioned in the title),and from the point of view of Logan Moore(Jack's owner and Dr.Westerley's son)
this book will highly interest you especially if you like animal stories and adventure. The Last Dog On Earth will make you laugh and make some people cry. This book is suspenseful, funny, sad, and very exciting. I give this book five stars and highly reccomend it to everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Review of Daniel Ehrenhaft's The Last Dog on Earth, March 3, 2011
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Paperback)
Can you imagine a horribly contagious dog disease going around that you can get too? That's what fourteen year old Logan Moore has to deal with. If you want a book that has action constantly then this is the book for you. Daniel Ehrenhaft's Last Dog on Earth is definitely a page turner.
Logan's life is not a happy one especially with his demanding stepdad Robert. Robert always makes Logan do things that Robert did when he was a kid, even if Logan doesn't want to. When his stepdad sees that the neighbors have a trained pure bred dog, he says Logan has to get one too. Robert wants him to get a Labrador, but Logan wants to get a mutt at the pound. So without his stepdad's permission, he decides to get a mutt at the pound. Because of the dog disease, Logan has to watch out for men who are randomly shooting all dogs no matter if they have the disease or not. People were getting it too! They would drool, get violent, and go crazy! This book is also an easy read, and I didn't have trouble following the characters. It takes place in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, in Newburg and Portland, Oregon.
I really liked the book because time flew by when I read it, and the characters brought me swiftly through the chapters until it ended. This book didn't make you say at the end, "What happened to Logan?" It definitely was a conclusive book. I recommend this book to people who are seeking adventure. My only complaints were some inaccuracies. The first one was that dogs don't have collar bones and the second one was that there's no such thing as a rabies test on a living dog. If you can overlook these faults, then I recommend this book to you.

Five Stars
The last dog on Earth, November 21st, 2006- Reviewer: Olivia Captain

I loved this book. It was entertaining and exciting at the same time. I highly recommend it to anyone over 13, any dog lovers, or anyone who loves a good book. The story begins with a boy named Logan Moore. A misunderstood boy who's not accepted by his step-father, and ignored by his mother. When he adopts a helpless wild dog who needs his love...the real story begins. This book is an awesome fun-filled adventure with an ending to die for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action and suspense were some of the best parts of this book, April 23, 2006
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Paperback)
I love dog books so as soon as i saw the cover and title I had to read the book. I loved the way Logan always had something on his mind that he hated and how the author always incorporated something funny in the book. What really got me hooked though was the begining where Jack, Logan's dog can sense that something is wrong with the pack because they have not eaten or really moved for days. then when Jacks mom gets up because she realizes that her two pups need food Jack can tell that something is wrong. When her mom looks Jack straight in the eye her mom's eyes looked glazed over and tired. Then out of no where her mom bears her teeth at Jack and her brother and starts to chase and try to kill them. Jack gets cornered by her mom but as soon as her mom lunges for her she collapses and dies. I would recomend this book to anyone who is an animla freak like me and who loves a great adventure story when they see one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last Dog On Earth, February 9, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Paperback)
It was the beginning of summer, and the Moores were going to the Wallaces for a barbeque. There was only one thing wrong, Logan Moore hated the Wallaces and their son Devon. While they were Logan decided to try out a new invention. The "Logan Moore Master Remote Control", a.k.a., the "LMMRC". It was an invention designed to make electronics mess up and do what he wanted to do. It also works on anything electronic, and he was going to use it on the Wallaces radio. The invention worked, but the high pitched squeal affected the Wallaces dog. It ran around barking and growling like rabbid dog. It ran smack into Devon knocking him into the pool. The dog went after the radio sending it tumbling to the ground and smashing it to pieces. When they found out who made the dog go crazy Logan's dad, Robert, was furious with him. Then Devon's dad suggested he get Logan a dog. So he decided to. He gave Logan $200 to buy a dog he picked out for him.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Last Dog on Earth, December 14, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Paperback)
This is a very good book. I would reccomend it to everyone who likes dogs. Although, it might be kind of hard on dog lovers because many dogs do die. Logan Moore is a very hateful person. He even has a list he keeps in his head of everything he hates. Robert, his mom's boyfriend is always towards the top of the list. Robert and Logan do not get along well at all, and Logan is always getting in trouble. Robert and his mom decide to get him a dog to try to teach him responsibility. It works Logan is more responsible than ever and he is actually starting to enjoy life a little. Until one day when, he and his dog Jack (she's a girl), blow up a microwave in a general store. Logan in now sent to Blue Mountain Camp for Boys. Logan hates it here though and he runs away. Meanwhile back home and across the U.S. a dog diease is breaking out, (POS) Many dogs are dying and infecting humans. Jack is locked up in the basement with little food or water. So she decides to escape. She digs a hole throught the dirt floor of the basement. She has no nails left and her paws are bleeding, but she makes it and starts out to find Logan. They actually meet up in the woods several miles from home, but they cannot return for the dog disease is so bad that all dogs are being killed instantly when sited. One rainy night they take cover under an abandoned car, which turns out to be Logan's father's who left him and his mom when he was little. His dad is a professor and takes Logan and Jack into his home. He tests Jack for POS, and finds she is immune! The only dog in the world who is immune. They take her the university to try and make a vaccine from her cells, but before they can do so a man who has killed many dogs, storms into the room. He aims a pistol at Jack and fires, but Logan dives in front of Jack to save her life. The bullet goes into Logan's back. Read the rest of the book to find out what happens to Logan and Jack, and to see if the species of dogs will cease to exsist.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great novel, July 20, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Paperback)
This is one of the better books I've read in my life. This story fits in with action and adventure. The main chrector is a 14 year old boy who seems to hate evrything. Except jack. Jack's a 1 year old mutt from the wild. But a prion deseise is spreading and turning thwem into vicous creatures, and then kill thems. Another one of the main chrectors is Dr.Westerly, a loner who lives with his dog Jasmine is the mountains. Not only is this book an action bringer, you'll learn a thing or two from it. Mostly about prion deseises but it's still something. You'll also find yourself laughing many-a-time during the book. This book is also fine because it seems that it never becomes old to you. I've read it 4 times now and it still feels like a new book to me. Some people might cry at points but there aren't many sad parts. I recomend this novel to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars the last dog on earth by me, June 7, 2006
This review is from: The Last Dog on Earth (Paperback)
I like dogs so I checked this book out from the library right after I saw the title and the picture but I think the author shouldn't make title like that because Jack wasn't the last dog. I think it was just for the cool title and to get people's attraction.

Logan's dad and mom divorced because logan's dad divorced. Logan made a lot of trouble. His step father, Robert, wanted him to be like Devon because his dad was rich and he thought Devon was a great kid. Devon was nice when adults were around and mean when adults weren't around. Devon had a dog he trained. Robert wanted Logan to be next Devon, so he commanded Jack to buy a dog that has same kind. Logan didn't like Robert, so he didn't go to buy the dog Robert wanted. He bought the ugliest dog he could see, in another place. Logan read a lot of dog training books as possible when Robert was watching because Robert bothered him so much. There was a disease with no cure. Logan got in trouble and Robert and Logan's mom sent him to a boot camp. He escaped and Jack escaped. They met and ran. Logan tried to shoplift and got caught. When he was in police station, some people attacked Jack because she was tied to a tree. Logan found her and she was bloody. Logan took her and ran. He had headache or something and fainted on the way. His real dad found him luckily. He was a scientist and thought Jack had the disease. He found out that she was immune to the disease.

You'll have to read the book to read with more details and to know the ending.
