Excellent score full of emotion and heart!,

As the writer and director of "Last of the Dogmen" naturally I'm somewhat biased. But David did for my movie what every director secretly hopes for in a score: to elevate and enhance the emotional experience of watching the film. I remember getting the phone call from his hotel room here in L.A. where he'd been working on a theme for some weeks. "Can you come down right away?" he asked. "I've got it." Not long after, I stood in his cramped room and listened while he played a small piece of music that would eventually become the signature theme of the movie, especially the 'goodbye kiss' scene between Lewis Gates and Lillian (Berringer and Hershey). I looked at my fiance. Tears were flooding her eyes. Myself, I was choked with emotion because of David's beautiful music and because, if nothing else, I knew "Dogmen" was going to have a helluva score. Unfortunately, the movie flopped when it was released in Sept. '95. I hope the fact that you've probably never seen the film (let alone heard of it!) keep you from enjoying one of the most beautiful scores to come out of Hollywood in recent years. Thanks David. Love to Elly and George.

Last fo the Dogmen was an amazing film that does not come around to often. David Arnolds score was just as awe inspiring and amazing. He holds the very soul of music in his score and never falttered omce. He captured the very essence and spirit of a people wanting to be free and the love that slowly blossoms in the film. With his score he opened the door in his soul and let every one see how grand he could be in such a simple way. He has proven that when he wants he cannot just make great and grand music, but music that comes frim his very essence.;

buy this CD; David Arnold is a genius. Every time I listen to it I end up dropping everything else I was doing, getting comfortable and just listening. He really captures the spirit of the storyline and the music stands on its own, as well.

This film is one of my all time favorites, due in large part to the absolutely beautiful music. It grabs you from the beginning to the very end of the film and adds so much heart and emotion to the story (which is already so full of heart and emotion). I was thrilled to get the soundtrack on CD, and love all the music. But I was disappointed that the end credits music is not included! That is some of my favorite music of the film, especially the piano sections. That's the reason I give this CD a "4" instead of a "5" because that end credits music is not included on it. P.S. Thank you, Mr. Murphy, for taking the time to leave a review here! It's always so wonderful to hear from directly from the creative people behind the film and the music!

When I first saw the movie I was distracted by the music. The music was full of many emotions. While the plot was fiction, you began to feel compelled to watch the movie because of the wonderful music. I have not seen a movie in a long time that had such great music. I have been looking for this CD and am very pleased to have found it. I highly reccommend you watch the movie and enjoy every minute of the music.

Not only was I blown away from the very start of the movie due to the beautiful overall views of this country, the powerful music was a delight to the senses. You could close your eyes and just listen as wave after wave of fantastic sounds coming thru the TV. Just a great film that should have gotten better reviews than it did. Too bad alot of people missed out on such a great movie. I've watched it many times, and each time it only gets better. I've got the DVD and the soundtrack. Both are fantastic. When I plug in the soundtrack at work, many of my fellow workers stop in their tracks to listen.

One of Arnold's Best,

Unfortunately, this CD is nearly impossible to find, and when it is available it is incredibly expensive. Last of the Dogmen was a very pleasant, surprising find for me. I own most of the best soundtracks available, and thought I was running out of any new GREAT finds. This soundtrack definitely qualifies as a "great" soundtrack, up there with Arnold's Stargate and Independence Day, containing both great action music and sweeping themes. It manages to be thematically based (and therefore more memorable) while not becoming repetitive - something that is the downfall of many good soundtracks. The corollary to this is that this soundtrack is short in length; so while the music is not repetitive, the length of the soundtrack may have needed to be sacrificed in order for this to be. The total time is only 36:19 - much shorter than either Stargate of Independence Day. Again, the quality is very high, so the quantity of music should not effect your decision to purchase this CD. However, as mentioned earlier, price and availability of this item is much harder to deal with. I personally don't own the CD, but I was able to find a download site (for a small fee) that had it available. I am not sure if such a site still exists, but I would recommend searching online for it.

I watched the movie b/c I happen to love T. Beringer, but I never watch a movie w/o listening to the music. It is true that the soundtrack has all the David Arnold signatures, but I still love it. I was also disappointed that the acoustic piano track was not included, so I'll give 4.5 stars instead of five. As for the rest, I think the music more than captures the essence of the movie. Like the movie, romance or not, anyone with anything of the warrior in them will love this music.BTW, excellent choice, Mr. Murphy! |
