Disorganized Plot,
By
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
This movie is supposed to take place during Operation Market Garden in September 1944, when the Allies tried to get across the Rhine in a serious of three major air assaults. The lack of background to set up the story and cohesive plot make this story very hard to follow. The characters are not introduced in the traditional sense, so you struggle to follow along.
Billy Zane's role was a real mystery. He was a British glider pilot without an accent. Was he a Canadian? The Americans, led by Michael Madsen, are played as inept and follows the European template for how to portray Americans. This movie tried to be a cross between Kelly's Heroes and Bridge Too Far. It failed.

What ever happened to good WWII movies?,
By
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
This reviewer has been watching WWII movies for over 40 years, and this movie is without a doubt the absolute WORST I have ever had the displeasure of watching! I don't know who Billy Zane and David Madsen owed favors to but I think it is safe to say that the favor has been returned in spades! This movie is so flawed that I don't know where to begin. It looks like it was filmed in about a day and a half. It is lacking in plot, storyline, continuity, etc. Even the slightest attempt at a believeable concept was not attempted. I doubt that even Speilberg could salvage such a piece of crap!

Entertaining war flick but too many plot lines,
By
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
The Last Drop is an entertaining war film, but it could have been better with a more organized plot/storyline. During Operation Market Garden, another operation of British commandos, "Matchbox", is dropped behind enemy lines with hopes of obtaining a warehouse full of Nazi treasure, gold and famous paintings. At the same time, a trio of rogue German soldiers is on their way to claim the treasure for their own. This movie had potential, and I did enjoy it, but there are just too many storylines to keep up with. Along with the British and German soldiers, there's an inept American general with his troops, resistance fighters, a revenge plot line, and several more. However, the movie isn't all bad. The action scenes are pretty well done, and when the story focuses on the two main plots, the British and Germans, it's an entertaining movie.
Billy Zane plays Oates, the Canadian pilot of the glider carrying the British troops. When the glider goes down, Oates tags along with them. Zane is good, but his character has a Canadian accent that goes in and out. Michael Madsen makes a brief appearance as General Colt, an American general who wants the treasure for himself. His scenes, which are few and far between, are pretty painful to watch. Karl Roden and Alexander Skarsgard play Beck and Voller, two of the rogue German soldiers seeking the gold. The rest of the British commandos include Tommy Flanagan in a good part, Sean Pertwee, Rafe Spall, Neil Newbon, and Nick Moran. The DVD has widescreen presentation, a Last Drop trailer, and trailers from three other movies. Overall, this movie had potential, but it seems like the director couldn't decide what story lines to focus on. So to be safe, it might be a good bet to rent it first before you buy it.

Plot Fizzles...,

This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
This WWII action flick obviously made with a low budget shows promise at first. Using some crafty photography incorporated with a gritty opening battle scene, keeps the viewer on edge. The stage is set competently enough for a Dutch treasure heist.
About a half hour into the movie, silly dialogue and lousy acting mar the whole plot. Michael Madsen's role as an American commander is so insignificant that there is no doubt that his career has gone south. This movie makes "Kelly's Heroes"(The ultimate WWII heist movie) seem like Oscar material.

Very poor movie,

One of the worst WWII movies I've ever seen and I watch every one that is released. Terrible sound track, poor audio mixing, hard rock in the music score, disrespectful of German, American and British troops. Billy Zane was the only actor that was close to properly cast for the part, the remainder of the cast are good actors, but not in this movie. If you know nothing of the WWII era and of WWII and you like movies were there is nothing close to the good guy, you'll like this movie.

Very poorly done, no plot, lousy uniforms, historically garbage.,

Looking at the box art and reading the desription, I was expecting something like maybe an updated version of Kelly's Heroes. This is a long way from Kelly's Heroes. This is a great example of some pinhead producer with a decent budget making a pathetic movie. The uniforms of the characters involved are horribly innacurate and in several instances look like they were made out of construction paper - I've seen better in college drama club plays. The plot, if you can call it that, is bloody awful and completely unbelievable. The only thing I kept wondering through this whole movie was "how did they get the guy from 'Titanic' to agree to be in this train wreck?" Avoid this one like a bad rash, this could well be in contention for the "worst war movie of all time" award.

Didn't know whether it was comedy or drama,
By
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
This film would have made a poor, but not terrible, drama, had they elected to play it straight. But they didn't. They made it part comedy, so what you get is a very odd, confused film that doesn't know what it wants to be. You don't know whether you're supposed to laugh or cry. Mostly, you just fast-forward.
Others have commented on the lack of historical authenticity, but one thing they got right was the look and feel of the German machine guns. Those German machine guns had an incredibly high rate of fire that was well in advance of anything the British or Americans had at that time.

Bad Movie, Bad Story, Bad Acting .Historically inaccurate,
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
I am a WW2 Reenactor that loves war movies. This was by far the worst movie I had ever seen. The story is terrible and hard to follow, alot of the the uniforms and equipment are inaccurate for the time period , the acting is horrific and they play modern rock music in the movie. I actually threw the DVD in my garbage (where it belongs) after wasting my time watching this.

The Last Drop,
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
This movie was the absolute worst I've seen. Just about every character was miscast. The plot was confusing--probably because it was so weak and unbelievable. The acting was so over-the-top and amateurish that it was almost embarrasing--as was the directing. Attention to detail was non-exsistant, with wrong and out-of-period uniforms, vehicles, and weapons, etc. The soundtrack really brought me to tears; it was a mixture of dramatic orchestral tracks and hard rock of all things! If you like watching an Airborne Infantry officer wear new-looking flat-top service cap and leather flight jacket in combat (instead of the more regulatory and sensible helmet and field jacket)...or watching idiots making hip shots with their service revolvers against MG-42's...or watching moronic looking SS officers who ride around the entire movie with their upper torsos sticking out of their staff-car's sunroof, then this picture is for you. If you are looking for a quality film like Band of Brothers, or Saving Private Ryan, don't buy or rent this garbage. In fact, it doesn't even come close to Kelly's Heroes, which at least had a good plot and terrific acting.

A good quality entertaing movie, recommended,
By
This review is from: The Last Drop (DVD)
I have just seen "The Last Drop" and thoroughly enjoyed the Movie. For start to finish the action was very good.I found the Plot interesting but could I feel be confusing for certain people. Whilst it was loosely based on actual events the scenario was believable and could have actually happened with spoils of war programs now being topical. I also feel the movie broke new ground in giving the aspects of the Germans. I have not doubt there are many good stories from the German perspective about the war. Laurence Fox as Major Kessler played a very good role and not doubt we shall be seeing him in many good movies in the future.I found it good to has some humor injected into the script which helped the movie to flow smoothly. The computer graphics were good and reasonably realistic. Overall the film attempted and I feel succeeded to cover all aspects of the plot. The props, vehicles etc were believable. So if you feel like a good evenings entertainment's I recommend this film
