The best of Etta's "Best Ofs" were some of her first albums,

At Last! The digitally remastered release with bonus tracks is this one, so you don't need the Essential Etta James, this is it, and it is truly essential. I personally can't live without this album in regular rotation; it's a superb pick-me-up that just grabs your heart from the get-go and keeps you smiling and grooving all the way through. At last! showcases Etta's power as the hottest blues diva on the 60's circuit, and along with Etta James Rocks the House you've got two of the best CDs ever put out in blues and R&B . She'll rock your house till it rolls right over; these tunes have stood the test of time and should be on everyone's most played lists.

Pure Sexuality!,

Wow! If you're looking for a new way to romance the one you love, look no further than At Last by Etta James! Forget Bolero, lite rock and smooth jazz! Her voice is raw and powerful and will reach into the deepest part of your "soul." Most renditions of Stormy Weather try to be Lena Horne sound alikes and it just doesn't work. Etta James takes the song and turns it into pure heaven with her delivery and straightforward style. I knew she sang At Last, but when I heard the Diet Coke Commercial with I Just Want to Make Love to You -- I knew it was her and just had to find out more! This one cut is worth the price of the CD if you like your blues down and dirty. Many Cds engineered from older sources have the scratchy background (just like an LP). At Last is clear and has an excellent quality. I've listened to other Cds of Etta and this one, in my opinion, is her best. Each song showcases her remarkable flexibility and power to take a simple melody and make it memorable! Buy this one NOW.

I heard At Last on a telethon for a public radio station and it blew me away. I went right out the next day trying to explain to the clerk the particular qualities of the song that had been cut so many times that made this unique - the voice was sweet and strong, the background music lyrical. And after I left with the CD in hand I realized what a gem I had found. This albumn has the most amazing recordings of Sunday Kind of Love, At Last, Stormy Weather, and several other great hits plus some bonus songs that will knock you out. This is the CD with the original classic cut of I Just Want To Make Love To You - the song now replayed in those tv detergent commercials. The songs I had never been exposed to hit my the most - the wonderful lyrics, the execution, and the upbeat messages. This is a fun jazz albumn, pop albumn, that is still modern despite being just recently re-released from the 1959 recordings. This is Etta James finest albumn.

It's amazing to think Etta James was just in her teens when these tracks were cut. The vocals on this collection of songs range from sassy to tender to broken-hearted to playful. Truly an incredibly gifted vocalist, and a great selection of tunes. The title track, often used in commercials and movies (perhaps a little too often), is one of the greatest love songs of all time and only hints at the variety herein. Get "At Last." Play it at your cocktial parties, during romantic dinners or on a rainy, lazy Sunday morning at home. It delights, it thrills, and it is an all time classic.

When I heard At Last on a T.V commercial for Jaguar for the first time,I was just speeechless. It blew me away. Most of my friends and I were into those hard core alternative music,so nobody could not tell me who the singer was. Luckily, I had a chance to hear the song once again in the movie "Rain Man".I bought the sound track right away and found out who the singer was. I immediately fell love with her magnificent voice and her singing ability, and blues has become my favorite music listening. This must be the finest album of Etta ever.

My goodness. Etta is a goddess! Her voice sounds like an angel straight from heaven. Although Etta's voice is raw and powerful, it has a beauty to it that is completely unique to her. Not to mention, how can you forget the classic songs on this album, like "At Last" and "Sunday Kind of Love". You must check out this album. Etta's voice is like no other!

W-O-W,

I've always loved the song "At Last," but I never knew who sang it. I bought the Pleasantville soundtrack last year, simply because that song was on it (Fiona Apple turned out to be a nice surprise -- but that's another review, isn't it?). When I looked this up on amazon, I hadn't even realized that Ms. James sang "I Just Want to Make Love to You" -- what a fun, sexy song that is! And "Stormy Weather" could really be messed up, but this version is all her own! However, I must say that my favorite discovered treasure on this album is "A Sunday Kind of Love" -- they pretty much don't get any more perfect than this. One word of caution: the only song on this whole album that's a bit grating is #11, "My Heart Cries." Set your CD player to pass it, sit back, and enjoy...

Never Heard of Etta James? You jest!,
By Eclectic Revisited "Charlie" (Arizona) - See all my reviews

Etta James occupies a special place in music history, one that may have been overshadowed by rock and roll or other soul/blues singers who may well have catered to the "pop" culture of the time. If you've only heard a bit of "At Last" on a Fancy Feast catfood commercial, you can appreciate this lady's work. This is a steal at the price for some great songs!

If you can listen to Etta sing and not feel like you have been moved, you must not have a pulse! This woman's voice is a knockout, and the songs on this album blew me away! "At Last" and "I Just Want to Make Love to You" are my two favorites. I suggest listening to this album over cocktails for some serious fun and a great atmosphere!
