Out Of This World!, July 11, 2009
This review is from: Last Epic (Spec) (Audio CD)
Ok guys this is how I found this band. I was a Dream Theater Fan so obviously I am into Progressive Music. Then because of this progressive interest, I checked out the Prog Metal band from Sweden called Andromeda. And because of my love for Andromeda, I followed the path of their drummer Thomas Lejon and found this amazing band called A.C.T. Last Epic was the first album that I heard from this band and immediately fell in love with it cause it was so different than anything else out there that I have listened to. It was such a refreshing experience and journey each time the disc is played. It has all the different elements thrown into the mix that made A.C.T shines thru the pack. It is definitely catchy, melodic, technical at times and little heavy on the guitars when it is called for in the song. It also the feel of reggae. Yes reggae and it worked out beautifully into their song writing. Keyboads play an integral part to their songs. It also incorporate pop musical influences, great voice and background vocals from the band. Their music makes you want to sing along and be happy and joyful. The most unique thing about A.C.T is that their music is so playful. It is like they are still kids having tons of fun playing on the field with one another. SUPER COOL!! from start to finish. You can't denied the brilliance of musicianship in this band. They got it all! I am one happy A.C.T dude man!

No Epic, But Another Very Good CD, January 6, 2007
Last Epic is the third CD from A.C.T, a Swedish progressive metal band, although this album continues moving the group closer to a symphonic sound. This particular item is the Atenzia release of the CD, which took place on February 17, 2003 in Europe. Unlike their first two releases, there are no extra tracks on the Atenzia release of this CD. However, like their first two albums it is an enjoyable album to listen to, and once again the music is very well done and the lyrics and vocals are the weaker parts of the album.
Out of the 14 tracks, the ones that I enjoy the most include "Wailings From A Building", "Mr. Landlord - Apartment 121 ", "Dance Of Mr. Gumble", "Manipulator - Barbeque", "The Cause", "The Effect", and "Summary". Unlike their previous CDs, this one doesn't have `The Long One' (i.e. a longer piece broken into smaller ones), but that is because the entire album is a longer piece with different sections. I don't think the peaks of this album are as high as Today's Report, but it maintains are more consistent level than that album. I find that each of their albums improves with each listening.
The band includes Jerry Sahlin (Keyboards, Vocals, Vocoder), Tomas Lejon (Drums), Ola Andersson (Guitars, Vocals), Peter Asp (Bass Guitar, Percussion, Backing Vocals), and Herman Saming (Lead Vocals). In addition, they have "The Acting Orchestra" which includes Stefan Pöntinen (Violin 1), Kajse-Lotta Soleke (Violin 2), Malin Wikblad (Viola), and Per Tidstrand (Cello). Tomas Erlandsson, their original percussionist, is also credited with Percussion but is not listed as part of the group, and Sara Svensson does the Lead Vocals on "The Effect".
