5.0 out of 5 stars penultimate punch, October 17, 2004
By

This review is from: Last Exile - Queen Delphine (Vol. 6) (DVD)
The next-to-last disk in the series does not disappoint, continuing both story development and high quality production values. The epic plot continues to build, with a few revelations and a great deal of character development including heroism, sweetness and sadness. One of this series' many stengths is the way in which it manages its large cast. Distinctive characters and believable relationships give a human dimension to a sweeping storyline.

The three episodes in this volume provide considerable insight into the Guild, its history and workings. As seen in other cultures though this series, the Guild is given a distinctive visual appearance in costume, decor and technology.

The quality of this series remains consistently high, and the viewer is left anxious for the final volume and trusting that it will be a satisfyig conclusion to an excellent story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Queen of Mean, February 7, 2005
This review is from: Last Exile - Queen Delphine (Vol. 6) (DVD)
Wow, where I can begin other than that you will be completely riveted and glued to your chair! Maestro Delphine, Dio Eraclea's sister is completely ruthless and totally without scruples when it comes to getting her way. Dio has absolutely no chance even with his faithful Luciola as bodyguard. The Silvana is captured, Alvis falls into Delphine's clutches and Alex Rowe meets his ultimate nemesis. This disc really gives gives you some back story about the guild and talk about absolute power! The animation is mesmorizing, and with a villain who is an absolute despot as the key element you have the recipe to total entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars The war begins., December 23, 2004
By
Kellyannl (Bronx, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Last Exile - Queen Delphine (Vol. 6) (DVD)
Up until now, Last Exile has been beautiful to look at with some interesting characters, but nothing special in the character development department in spite of hints of depth to come. This volume makes up for that big time, and anyone who's liked the series so far should be riveted.

In the big picture, the war now officially starts as we follow Lavie's pal Mullin, the likeable young Musketeer who's acted as the series' Everyman, as he tries to continue his lucky streak and survive his 20th battle with some help from the makeshift good luck replacement medal Lavie gave him.

The main plot, however, involves the long-in-coming confrontation with Queen Delphine, who takes over the Silvana and captures Dio, Alex and Alvis, with Claus fortunately able to stay with Al through the ordeal. Claus and Alvis are forced to watch in horror as free-spirited, life-loving Dio becomes a tragic figure as his coming-of-age birthday sadly ends as he feared as he begins to lose his battle to free himself from his evil sister.

However, the volume ultimately belongs not to them but largely and surprisingly to Dio's seemingly stoic slave Luciola, who becomes a hero of epic proportions as he faces seemingly impossible odds as he tries to do right by the master who had the power to make his life miserable but has always treated him kindly.

The penultimate volume leaves you on the edge of your seat and eager for the conclusion.
