4.0 out of 5 stars Good background on early war pilot training, November 6, 2007
This review is from: The Last Flight of Liberator 41-1133 (Signed) (Paperback)
This book focuses on the crew and events leading up to the crash of B-24 41-1133. It crashed on the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico on a training flight out of Kirtland Field in Albuquerque on April 22, 1942.

The best aspect of this book is the thorough coverage of pilot training in the pre-war and early war period, complete with the many problems of organization and equipment faced during that time. The coverage for the two student pilots is very complete; there is also quite a bit of information on background and training of the instructors and crew members, although that is much less complete.

The book also covers the events leading up to the crash, and possible reasons for the accident; clearly much of this is open to debate, given there were no survivors.

This is a worthwhile book for those interested in pilot training in the early WWII time period. I found it an enjoyable read.
