After hearing the songs "Brainflower" and "Love Her Like the Rain", I was a bit hooked on Joe Rossi's music. I had purchased the album for a reasonable price, and definitely do not regret this purchase.

Maybe this is pathetic .. but I like it, as much as I hate it,
because it reminds me of how much I wanted to be like morrison at one point, and yet as purely a fan of morrison, I think my allusions are sickingly blatant to the point of overkill, and the whole thing kind of embarrasses me, but then I listen to it,

After hearing the songs "Brainflower" and "Love Her Like the Rain", I was a bit hooked on Joe Rossi's music. I had purchased the album for a reasonable price, and definitely do not regret this purchase.

The whole album is a treat. This is definitely a strong throw back to the days of acid rock. While Joe has a voice similar to Jim Morrison, there really is no 100% solid correlation between his music and The Door's music, but rather vague relations.

In my opinion Brainflower is the highlight of the album. Constant ripping guitar work, an upbeat groovy organ and Joe's strong vocals offer a really awesome song that I truly believe could have been a smash hit 40 years ago.

All in all there really are no weak points on this album, its a steady flow of musical brilliance.

I would recommend this album to anybody who enjoys the groovy rock sound of the 60's, as Joe performs an amazing throwback. This is a must have for any Grateful Dead, The Doors, CCR, The Beatles etc fan.

Most doors fans hate me, and I don't blame them really.. because they
really can be only one Jim Morrison, and he remains someone Igreatly admire, but I'm a different person than I was back when I was growing up and playing music. This music is a part of my past; a tribute to The Doors, The Dead, my friends, music, and history.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chat with a modern day Morrison..., February 23, 2000

I recieved my copy of "Last Fling" a little over a year ago, since then it hasn't left my cd player. Mr. Rossi has easily become one of my favorite musicians. Listening to the lyrics, the word play and the way the music flows, it was as if i were having a momentary conversation with a modern day Jim Morrison. You can definately see the influences behind his art.

Out of all the songs on the cd, I must admit my favorite is "Love Her Like The Rain". I've never met Mr. Rossi, but it feels as if he's talking straight to me. He is definately a poet, excellent lyricist and deserves more than the 5 stars I can rate for his cd. The only thing that goes through my mind each time I listen to it is, "When's his next album coming out?"

In my opinion I would recommend it to anybody and everybody, as a matter of fact I already have. Friends of mine own the cd as well, plus there's a couple more hoping to get a way to purchase it soon. It's definately something worth looking into!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me, February 6, 2000
This review is from: A Last Fling With Decadence & Democracy (Audio CD)
I can only say I wish there was a way to give a negative star to this CD. The review I read must have been written by a friend, because I bought the CD on the grounds of that review and when I put it in my CD player and pressed play, my system nearly choked to death. It is drab, old and it seems to be completly about nothing but some old guy and his guitar. I would only tell someone to buy this CD if they deaf. Hey, anybody wanna buy it off me? $1

5.0 out of 5 stars Decadent & Delicious!, August 23, 1999

Joe Rossi's CD, "A Last Fling with Decadence & Democracy", is hard to catagorize. And therein lies one of its greatest strengths. It rocks, soars, floats, jiggles, winks, and mocks...

Awe-inspiring influences (such as the Grateful Dead, Doors, and suspected unconscious elements) infuse and mesh, creating a unique style, both structured and wild, showcasing each musician's impressive range of talents. It's Vintage and it's Now. And it WORKS.

The sounds are sexy and saucy, peppered with twists of humor...taken to the delirious limit in "If Only Joey Buttafuco Could Write". One of my faves, "Freeways and Mirrors", is an on-the-road epic, drawing me into an intricately woven "driving" backbeat and guitar web, laced throughout with casual, laid-back vocals-- A trip!

The copious liner notes which complement the lyrics are good readin', adding revealing insights... although each song is powerful enough to stand alone and provide its own ample playground for the imagination.

To me, the lofty peak culminates in "Love Her Like the Rain", a dazzler of spontaneous spirit, the essence of live performance. The gem features the mysterious appearance of a female vocalist known only as "Tree", and the result is a spicy duet!

Do yourself a favor. Add this CD to your collection...
