This review is from: Last Holiday (Audio CD)
As noted in the other review, there are four songs included that were not in the movie (actually five... more on that), and six songs or so that were in the movie and not on this soundtrack. Perhaps there was a rights problem with these other songs, and so the record producer filled in the four added songs. Still, it's odd to have an impression of the music from the movie, and to have a different mix on the soundtrack. But worse is that the new songs in the movie were not included. Queen Latifah did two songs with the Ebenezer Baptist Church Radio Choir; neither appear in the sound track. But in what I consider a capital offense, Smokey Robinson's absolutely incredible, obviously-done-as-a-personal-favor-to-Queen-Latifah, version of The Tracks of My Tears is cavalierly replaced with the version from his hits collection. (His song was the main reason I bought the soundtrack.)
As a compilation of songs, this is a decent collection, and I would probably give it more stars. But it is a distorted reflection of the actual soundtrack, and depriving us of the new songs from the movie is inexcusable. |
