A very good movie!, February 7, 1999

This movie had a terrific story that anyone would love. It would put a smile on anyones face. It's a shame that the movie had a fifteen minute period with very little talking, which got a little boring. Also, for a family movie it had some un-needed cursing from certain child actors (not too much , though). The casting was excellent, though. tom Guiry was terrific in the role of young Jonathan. Ryan Hopkins who had a somewhat lesser role, was also very good. It's no wonder he made it to broadway shortly after and was in The King and I and The Sound of Music. Everyone should get this movie!!!! It is very good!

A great movie, August 26, 2001

I think it was a great movie. Tom Guiry did a target job on young Jon and the ending was really good, too, even though it was rather sad. It's a family movie. My suggestion, you shuld rent it and see if you like it, then buy it from amazon or where ever. I saw this movie and declared immediatley afterword that it's possibly one of my best movies. The message was really strong. Almost zippo romance. Only holding hands and you get it. If you get it and you like it, that's wonderful, and if you don't, that's your problem 'cause it was a great movie.

Swings and misses..., May 21, 2007
This review is from: The Last Home Run [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Bought this on the strength of loving "Marley & Me." Marley fans should note he appears only for around 2 minutes about half way into the movie, and doesn't keep still enough for a full shot in all that time! John Grogan's description of Marley's breathing destroying the sound is right - but sadly the "exit the car" scene he makes so much of in the book is reduced to a few frames of the dog lying inside the van in the actual cut.
Of the movie itself, and the human cast, they all struggle with dodgy dialogue and enthusiastic but deeply flawed direction. The main issues, though are in script narrative, editing and continuity - all of which left this viewer howling with frustration.
Tom Guiry and Danielle Comerford should consider full-time dramatic careers as they are both watchable youngsters who give great warmth to the tale (Comerford in particular lifts the ending with a sensitive moment). The adult actors should probably lose this movie on their resumes, though.
As another reviewer here says, you can see what they were trying to do, but just don't get there in the end. If you see a copy of this tape cheap in a flea market, buy it, but if you are a Marley fan, think twice before spending big bucks - aside from two minutes of the hound, there isn't much that will hold the attention of anyone unless a 10 year old baseball nut.
