Using fictional characters, Dunn, now retired, traces the roles of France, Great Britain, North Vietnam, and the United States in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, North and South Vietnam from 1938 to 1972. He details actual events such as Operation Vulture, President Trumans plan to use atomic weapons against the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) at Dien Bien Phu. This plan called for the subsequent use of atomic weapons against Communist China and the USSR. President Eisenhower gave the plan serious consideration.
Colonel Dunn weaves a story of lies, deceit, espionage and romance based on historical events. Exciting, entertaining, and emotionally wrought, The Last Hookers is the most profound look into U.S. involvement in Southeast Asia since the wars end.
From humble beginnings to honored war veteran, Colonel Dunn has spent most of his life in the military. Enlisting in the South Carolina National Guard, while working his way through college, he later served in the Army Reserve. Commissioned a second lieutenant, Dunn attended Field Artillery Officers Basic Course at Fort Still, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, the Army canceled Dunns orders to Korea. He stayed at Fort Still to teach gunnery, and was the first Second Lieutenant ever to teach that course. Next, he completed helicopter flight school and went on to serve during the Vietnam conflict. Highly decorated and widely published, Dunn now resides in South Carolina. The Last Hookers is his first full-length novel.

The Last Hookers,
By
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
Carle E. Dunn has done the hookers and anyone who is interested in what really happened in Vietnam a great service in pointing out the good and the bad, the brave and not so brave, the strife and the glory. Having "been there, done that", the book brings out the history, the fights, the family of yesteryear long buried. It should not, for our brave who have given their all should not be forgotten. This book brings it well into the fore-front.Carle clearly separates a bad war from the good warriors who faught it. The Last Hookers suggest a much more positive view of not just the outcome of the war, but also of American morale, competence, and performance. A must read. Ex Hooker, (Recovery)

This Book Takes You There!,
By "irawl" (Utah, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
I couldn't put this book down. It has everything a person could want in a thriller and most of the things really happened. The details make you believe you are actually living the events. Carle Dunn covered World War II and included attempts on Hitler's life; he detailed the French Resistance fighters; the battle of Britain; Japan's invasion of Southeast Asia; Ho Chi Minh's murderous rise to Communist power while killing tens of thousands of his own people who opposed him. He showed how the U.S. supplied this killer with weapons like artillery, vehicles, ammunition which a great deal of it was used against our soldiers when the U.S. got involved. He does all this with the lives of people from Switzerland, Germany, France, England and the United States. He even shows how the tribes who lived in the jungles became Special Operation Forces for the CIA. There is a bunch about helicopters and their part in the Vietnam War. Sometimes I could almost hear the rotor blades turning and bullets hitting the ships. I sure hope he writes another book. I will be first in line to get it.

Sensitive Love of Women For Their Men,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
There are three great romances in this book. Two are about the love required by women for men who have to sacrifice for their countries. They must wait for their men and keep their love alive through letters. The third is a Vietnamese girl who is to become a nun until another love arrives in the form of a French Legionaire. Torn between either becoming a bride of Christ or the bride of a man tears at her soul. Each romance will cause a reader to weep as the character's lives and loves extend over almost half a century. Filled with raw emotion each will, at times, cause laughter, tears and simple smiles at the pleasure and mystery of new love to a young girl. There is romantic conflict when a love has to be denied to preserve a holy committment to another. This book is not your typical war story. It is a big love story that just happens to take place during a war which creates an ultimate truth in their love lives. If you think Gone With The Wind was a love story, read this book to learn what a true love is and what depth it can go.
