The Last Hookers,
By
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
Carle E. Dunn has done the hookers and anyone who is interested in what really happened in Vietnam a great service in pointing out the good and the bad, the brave and not so brave, the strife and the glory. Having "been there, done that", the book brings out the history, the fights, the family of yesteryear long buried. It should not, for our brave who have given their all should not be forgotten. This book brings it well into the fore-front.Carle clearly separates a bad war from the good warriors who faught it. The Last Hookers suggest a much more positive view of not just the outcome of the war, but also of American morale, competence, and performance. A must read. Ex Hooker, (Recovery)

This Book Takes You There!,
By "irawl" (Utah, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
I couldn't put this book down. It has everything a person could want in a thriller and most of the things really happened. The details make you believe you are actually living the events. Carle Dunn covered World War II and included attempts on Hitler's life; he detailed the French Resistance fighters; the battle of Britain; Japan's invasion of Southeast Asia; Ho Chi Minh's murderous rise to Communist power while killing tens of thousands of his own people who opposed him. He showed how the U.S. supplied this killer with weapons like artillery, vehicles, ammunition which a great deal of it was used against our soldiers when the U.S. got involved. He does all this with the lives of people from Switzerland, Germany, France, England and the United States. He even shows how the tribes who lived in the jungles became Special Operation Forces for the CIA. There is a bunch about helicopters and their part in the Vietnam War. Sometimes I could almost hear the rotor blades turning and bullets hitting the ships. I sure hope he writes another book. I will be first in line to get it.

Sensitive Love of Women For Their Men,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
There are three great romances in this book. Two are about the love required by women for men who have to sacrifice for their countries. They must wait for their men and keep their love alive through letters. The third is a Vietnamese girl who is to become a nun until another love arrives in the form of a French Legionaire. Torn between either becoming a bride of Christ or the bride of a man tears at her soul. Each romance will cause a reader to weep as the character's lives and loves extend over almost half a century. Filled with raw emotion each will, at times, cause laughter, tears and simple smiles at the pleasure and mystery of new love to a young girl. There is romantic conflict when a love has to be denied to preserve a holy committment to another. This book is not your typical war story. It is a big love story that just happens to take place during a war which creates an ultimate truth in their love lives. If you think Gone With The Wind was a love story, read this book to learn what a true love is and what depth it can go.

This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
A book every VietNam veteran should have, what an amazing recount of activities from the other side. This book builds you up and takes you through the activity behind the scenes as we were fighting. The accounts of how we ended up there in the first palce is enlightining, the account of the lives of the locals and the pain and suffering they encountered is something we forgot! To think we weren't loved and now see how we contriubted so much in help and spirit gives every veteran a sense of contribution. As powerful as any John Grishman book and hits home to the many millions who served in that country! Outstanding, a MUST READ!

This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
The Last Hookers offers a rare look into historical facts that go back more years than most people would believe. A well written, intertwining story of politics, war, families involved from all walks of life and from many countries and backgrounds. One of those rare written stories where one can't wait to read the next page. Nothing is left for wonder, it's all here.

A Great book of history!,
By W. H. McDonald Jr. "The American Author Assoc... (Elk Grove, CA USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
LTC Carle Dunn has written the most comprehensive book on what the whole Vietnam War was really about. His book is a study in history with the causes and effects of policy and conflicts. "The Last Hookers" is very scholarly written but reads like a novel. I learned things about our history that I never knew happened--like how we almost got ourselves into a nuclear war over Vietnam when the French were losing the battle for Dien Bien Phu. His book gives inside information on the CIA operations that took place in Asia and we get an inside look at how policy and war are what shapes future wars and battles.
If you only could get your hands on one book about the history of the Vietnam War, this would be a good book to start with. You certainly get your money worth of information in 658 pages. The author shows his skills at putting together facts and data and connecting the dots to see the results on how it all fueled the fire for the decade's long problems in Asia. This book is a history classic already; make sure that you get to read it.

As a Flight Engineer with the 362Avn.Co. and having served under Col. Dunn I could not be more proud. After reading The Last Hookers I can honestly say I felt pride for the job we did in Vietnam. If anyone wants to know what Vietnam was like this is the book to read.

A compelling look inside the Vietnam War,
By
This review is from: The Last Hookers (Hardcover)
The Last Hookers provides us with a compelling inside look into the historical facts that shaped the Vietnam War (going all the way back to the earliest events in Europe and WW II). Colonel Dunn has truly authored a comprehensive, well written and definitive war story. The story details not only the politics involved behind the scenes, but how families from all sides were affected and coped with the strain and tragedy of the war. While this is a work of fiction the historical facts woven throughout the story really bring the characters to life. This realistic book was a thoroughly enjoyable read that gave me insights into the events leading up to and including the war itself that I had not even considered before. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is even remotely interested in the Vietnam War! You will come away with a much deeper understanding of the conflict and respect for those individuals and their families who were directly involved. Great stuff! |
