One of the finest historical novels of VietNam,
By T.R. Robinson (Iredell, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Hookers: From Nazi Germany to Viet Nam They Lived, They Loved, They Died (Paperback)
This is a high tech book Tom Clancy would admire. It takes the reader from battle torn Europe of WW2 to the end of America's involvement in the war in Viet Nam. Told from the French,American, and Vietnamese points of view, the reader will have insights of the war from several perspectives.Any student of history, aviation buff, or avid reader will not be able to put this one down!

Synopsis of a war,

This review is from: The Last Hookers: From Nazi Germany to Viet Nam They Lived, They Loved, They Died (Paperback)
The Last Hookers offers a rare look into historical facts that go back more years than most people would believe. A well written, intertwining story of politics, war, families involved from all walks of life and from many countries and backgrounds. One of those rare written stories where one can't wait to read the next page. Nothing is left for wonder, it's all here.

Thank You, Lt. Col. Dunn...,
By Gloria Campbell (Mpls., Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Hookers: From Nazi Germany to Viet Nam They Lived, They Loved, They Died (Paperback)
Being close to those who suffer from combat PTSD, I read The Last Hookers hoping to gain more knowledge about our involvement in Vietnam and to understand why so many of our soldiers died and why still so many of them suffer from its effects. Unlike many historical documents which are often so difficult to understand because of becoming mired in all the technical jargon, I found Lt. Col. Dunn's account quite the opposite. He has meticulously gone to great lengths to avoid that very thing, yet has maintained credence and validity of his technical expertise. The reader is introduced to several different characters from different backgrounds. Dunn later merges these characters and weaves an intricate tapestry of how each character comes to know the others, how they affect each other, and how events affect them. Much like John Jakes' The Bicentennial Series, history is reported by becoming alive for the reader. Being non-military, but living during those times, I remember Nikita Khrushchev saying, "We will bury you" to the United States referring to our democratic way of life. I remember well the day President Kennedy was murdered as well as those that followed him. I remember the student riots, the protestors, the burning of draft cards and our warriors who were spit upon when they came back home. I remember drafted classmates I grew up with who came back dead or forever disabled. I remember presidents and political leaders who kept the war in motion for years without any attempt to end it. I remember my visit to "the Wall" and the impact it had upon me. All of these memories can now be placed where they need to be because of The Last Hookers. You are to be commended, Lt. Col. Dunn, for your efforts to enlighten all of us of one of the greatest travesties to our soldiers of the 20th century. You have truly given me insight on the Vietnam tragedy and I am forever grateful for your efforts to set the record straight. I know this, our soldiers fought because they believed they were doing the right thing - protecting us and our democracy. They are all heroes in my mind and I shall never forget their sacrifice.
