About the Author

All of the author's books present his unique Nonfiction in a Fictional Style. He was raised in the small towns of Mississippi, but he has lived most of his adult life in large Texas cities. You will clearly perceive the delicate blend of Dallas and Mayberry in all his works.

More About the Author

Floyd M. Orr is the founder of three blogs, the author of four books, and a contributor to two coffee-table books. He writes from the confines of his own deluded little mind in a genre he calls Nonfiction in a Fictional Style. All of his work is very personal, real, cerebral, entertaining, and generally of a nonfictional nature. He enjoys writing in short, inspired bursts of energy, usually early in the morning or in the middle of the night. His works could be considered compilations of history and dreams, with commentary thrown in for good measure.

The author's favorite reading material is an esoteric combination of Playboy Magazine, coffee-table-sized books of car and motorcycle history, small automotive books chocked with facts and figures, political commentary books, Anne Rice novels, psychosocial dating manuals, and fictional stories of mysteries and werewolves.

The author's favorite authors are Don Martin (his Fester & Karbunkle series), Anne Rice, Kurt Vonnegut, Jean Shepherd, Peter Egan, Al Franken, Al Past, Joe Bageant, P. J. O'Rourke, Robert Rimmer, Paul Krugman, Thomas Frank, Eric Schlosser, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, D. H. Schleicher, Paul Stiles, and Barbara Ehrenreich.

Who is Floyd M. Orr? He is absolutely unknown and unfamous, but you can think of him as a mixture of Bill Hicks, Bill Maher, Bill Engvall, George Carlin, Lewis Black, Denis Leary, Al Franken, Jon Stewart, Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Charlie Rose, Peter Fonda, Forrest Gump, Frank Burns, and Charles Emerson Winchester III. But he's not as smart or talented as any of those guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Explain Your Entire Adolescence!, June 25, 2008
By
D. Salerni (Chester County, Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Last Horizon: Feminine Sexuality & The Class System (Paperback)
The Last Horizon: Feminine Sexuality and The Class System is a book which can explain all the horrible things that happened to you in junior high. It will also explain how the social pecking order that ruled your life as an adolescent still exists in your adult life, affecting your romances, your probable political affiliation, and most likely the car that you drive.

The author presents a theory of American social development which he suspects is unique in human history, born of a culture which is celebrity-adoring and consumer-driven and has not had to fear any major calamities since the end of the last World War. Floyd M. Orr is a straight-talking individual and he is not afraid to bluntly state the truth that we all know but don't say out loud. Your status in your peer group depends on your family background, your economic and educational status, but above all else--your physical attractiveness. Yes, Mr. Orr brings that dirty little fact out into the open. In our society, what you look like counts more than anything you know.

The Last Horizon describes a class system based on social status that is unrelated to your economic level. Focusing entirely on the middle class, Mr. Orr explains the pecking order in our society and the behavioral patterns at each level. In particular, he zeroes in on the dating rituals of our society and why women complain so often that they cannot find a good man. He suggests they are looking on the wrong rung of the social ladder.

Partly a dating manual for the woman who wants to break a pattern of bad relationships, and partly a biting commentary on the mores of our society, The Last Horizon is a fascinating read for anyone who wants to better understand how a social system that revolves around sexual attractiveness has been running our society, controlling our decisions, and limiting our success.
